    Considering adding a 100-shot

My friend is considering buying a Procharger for his Vette. This puts me about 50-100hp behind him, so I'm thinking that a Nitrous Kit is the answer, but I have some concerns...

    1. How much can the bottom end of an LS1 take? I just did a H/C/I swap (5.3L Heads, Torquer V.2 Cam, and FAST 90/90 Intake), so I'm already around 450hp once I get my exhaust and tune done, and with a 100-shot, I'll obviously be upwards of 500rwhp.

    2. I'm slightly scared of a nitrous backfire, so I will be installing the Burst Panels on my FAST 90. What are the necessary safety features you guys would recommend for a guy who has never used nitrous before?

    3. Any particular kits you guys are fond of for the LS1? I was looking at the ZEX Kit that is made specifically for the FAST Intake, because of its stealthiness.

    Thanks guys.

a ls1 can hold a 150 shot all day as long as its got the fuel and its tuned right.. i plan on fogging my car so the chances of backfiring is a lot less.. and if the solenoid dont open the worst is going to be no no2.... where if its wet and the fuel solenoid dont open and the no2 does well its not nice to plugs and eng and use cheep plugs(bill 98 ta)

Autolite 103's... Never a good platium plug... The plug must be able to melt before the pistons !!! ( if you would get a lean condition )

I understand that the LS1 can take 150-shot all day long, but my main concern is that I have a H/C/I swap that is pushing 450rwhp (over 500hp at the crank), and that adding an additional 100 to 150-shot might be too much for the stock bottom end.

You could hang the engine, drop the k-member 4" to get the oil pan off, then do ARP rod bolts...

So it's the Bolts that will go, not the crank or rods, eh?

    Thanks for the info.

Ussally, it's the bolts that take out every thing else... If you're going to build a new motor, defenatly go with stronger everything. I sprayed 150 into my stock bottom for 4 - 5 years, and # 7 pulled a rod bolt, idling back to the pit area... At least that motor is still rebuildable !!! Now I have H-Beam rods !!! LOL

Should I do the Main Cap Bolts at the same time? or am I good to go with those?

At first, I would say yes, but then after some thought, I'd leave the mains alone, until a complete rebuild. The LS1 has strong main caps ! Actually, six bolt mains !

crank and rods are bulletproof. iv heard they can take 800hp on the stockers. but i dont know if your pistons can take it. i might considered putting better pistons in it

you'll be ok on a 100 shot. Ls1's take 550 rwhp for long periods of time with timing pulled and the right A/f ratio. The problem is I've only had nitrous for a few months and I'm already tired of filling bottles. nitrous is inconsistent depending on bottle pressure. Save your money and procharge or turbo the thing. This is from a guy with a standalone, plate kit, bottle opener, bottle warmer, etc.
