Torrid Red- 05 GTO
Lancer EVO
I had no idea those things were so fast! I raced one on the way home last night and didnt get beat, but I didnt win either. We started off from about 60-which is the perfect place for startin out in 3rd-and took it up to 130 before we had to slow down because of traffic. I was behind him and hung with him the whole way but never gained on him and he never pulled farther ahead than what he was when we started. My car is still stock, his had an intake, exhaust, and a boost controller. So if you come up on one of those, be careful!

60 is not a perfect place to start in third. Shift down to 2nd, chirp the tires, run it to about 70-75, shift into third, leave otherwise close contenders about a car length back. Trust me.
Wait, sorry, I was talking about M6 F-bodies. I don't know where the sweet spots in a GTO are. My bad.

60mph isnt a place for the EVO to start out either now that I think about it. (Unless he was an MR and had a 6speed). Its usually 35-40 for 2nd gear, 50mph for 3rd and 70 for 4th... but who knows lol

Thats crazy how close the gears are in the Evo.. dont they have to be in 5th already at around 85-90?? A friend of mine with an Evo raced another friend of mines 5.0 last weekend... and he was already in 5th when the 5.0 was still in 3rd. He lost because he still can't speed shift, and he doesnt quite know how to launch it.

60 is where I shift out of 2nd, thats at 6k-ish rpms. Not gonna watch the tac that close while racin, I see it hit 6k and I shift. 60mpg in 3rd is at 3500rpms for me, so it pulls hard. Anyhoo, I dont know what gear he was in or the rpms, all I know is that car was fast.

Top end power is a weak spot for the Evo. If they have cams it's a different animal.

I drive an M6, If I put it in second while going 60, I'd break something. My car redlines at 60 mph in second gear. I also have 342's

Its seems like my past races against M6 LS1s they always wanted to go from 45 or 65 or maybe it was my imagination!

I think you were in the right gear. Good race.
Running 2nd to 70-75 mph isnt right. I was about to race on the highway once and I was going 75 and I tried to downshift to 4th but like a ahole I missed 4th and hit 2nd..
My car over reved like crazy.

Stock Evos are no competition for stock LS1's from a roll. Its ownage, by many carlengths. Evos and STi's aren't anything special from a roll at all, they are only fast from a dig, since they can outlaunch just about anything with their AWD.
Sounds like the Evo you raced had some mods, a stock one never would have hung like that

They are trapping 105-107 stock.Last edited by EE1983; 05-12-2006 at 09:41 AM.

(05s usually dyno around 250awhp stock). I dont know why Mitsu would underrate them but they sure did, being the whp is so close to the advertised crank HP. Even better, they respond much better to mods than the 03-05s. 2 guys ran 11s with just I/E/tune on 93. One of them now is going 11.5@117 on a race gas mix.
I just grabbed these off EVOm. Stock IX runs.

The ls2 GTO i raced from a roll must have been modded or my stock clutch must have been horribly slipping in 4th gear. The gto was pulling on me slowly at higher speeds. And i have more mods than the evo you raced.

What are you pushing with mods, maybe around 300HP?? Even if your car had 400HP to match the GTO, you would still lose, because the AWD system saps up much more power due to drivetrain losses.

He should have about 340-350whp. With that power, he should walk easily on an 05 GTO from a roll-on. When I had 346whp I could pull on my friends 05 GTO.
This thread is very ironic to me right now, I just raced a black 05 GTO minutes ago. 70mph roll-on and easily walked on it. Guy didnt look too happy after thatLast edited by EE1983; 05-14-2006 at 01:32 PM.
