Is it worth owning a Ford Excursion minus the powerstroke?
Here is the deal, I have been looking for a Ford Excursion for the past few months but so far I have had zero luck. I'm trying to find an Excursion with a power stroke but the only people who seem to have those trucks are dealers. And of course the dealers sale those trucks way above blue book retail value. As a college student I can afford blue book value but not if the dealers adds another 6K to the price of the truck. I have never really considered going with the gas route but if I want an Excursion I might have to bite the bullet and forget about a diesel. I'm not looking for performance I just need the size of the Excursion and I was wondering does anyone know how these trucks perform when powered by the V10 or 5.4 V8? I know the F250's with the V10 perform alright and but I have never driven a heavy duty vehicle with the 5.4. I figure with the right gearing the 5.4 could pull the big SUV around.

I would say no as well.
If I had to own a Ford it would have the powerstroke (F350 at least)

The V10 is pathetic like the 5.4L...my buddy wished he had gotten the diesel.

I have been able to take a few Excursions out for a test drive since I made this thread, one had the 5.4 and the other a V10. The 5.4 handled well enough to pull itself around but that was about it. Merging with highway speed traffic and pulling out in front of people was a dangerous game (remember I'm used to driving a Z28). I'm not sure what the truck had for a rear end but it had to be very low. I remember turning close to 2500 RPM while going down the interstate which is way to high for my taste.
The V10 on the other hand had plenty of low end toque and was actually fairly quick off the line. I was actually fairly interested in the truck but the front end kept producing a popping sound. From the sound of it I guess a ball joint was going bad and since the owner refused to lower the price of the truck I decided to look elsewhere.
Now after I look at it I'm glad he didn't lower the price of the truck. My folks had planned to give me a loan and I was going to pay them back before the end of the year. They decided to change their minds on giving me a loan and combined with paying $450 a month for my on campus apartment, their is no way I could afford a vehicle right now.

the v10 has WAY more TQ than the v8 but i wouldnt want either one of them and you wouldnt either if you drive the diesel. check autotrader and Ebay, there are still alot of powerstrokes out there. that turbo diesel with a good Edge setup and exhaust will add another 150HP 200TQ easy.
