Question how many miles before LS1 motor needs rebuilding?

considering the TA has not been abused, been primarily used as a daily driver, raced on street and drag strip a bunch of times, nothing long term or frequenty. 90k miles is it close to a motor rebuild? some of the japanese cars like the CRX can hit 180k miles without issues... I was wondering on an LS1 engine what is the limit usually taking in consideration the above criterias. thanks!

If it is well maintained it should last well over 100K. If N2O or other power adder was ever used then not quite as long obviously. Just wait till it goes and use that as an excuse to upgrade to a forged shortblock!

im at 123k and ive been told to not worry about it. What it will really come down to is how its holding up. do a compress test.

It all depends on how you drive it. Drive a Honda like you drive an F-Body, and it will need a rebuilt before 100,000 miles, guarenteed. Or at the very least it will be burning a lot of oil and have a ton of blowby.

Many guys have well over 100K miles no problem on well maintained LS1's. Its all about how well you take care of it, use high quality synthetic oil, change the coolant as specified, keep the fuel system clean, ect.

I'll be having a new daily driver 90k TA... I got a fair deal on it so, I think those motors will be good to 140-150k if oil changed right etc... thanks for the feedback.

It all depends on how it was driven.

that means that its above 40 psi at idle which is very normal for all these LS-series motors....sounds good to me. And in my honest opinon if treated "okay" most of the time, ls1 motors should last easily over 150,000 Ive read of guys going 400,000 and 300,000 on their LS1's but werwe highway driven and/or were not totally abused. Hope this helps take care !

cool. I'll be beating on that LS1 in Chicago for about a year or so while I will be there doing contract work. I need somthing that was good 4 seasons. I've got an LS1 TA heads/cam, 90/90, suspension, Moser 12 rearend and A4 done and enough extra $$ for the trade 402 ls2 that if I sell that LS1 beater in about a year I'll get something like a c6 when I get to Philly in 2 yrs. prices will go about 25k on a low miles c6 by then with the ls3 and new z06 coming out.

DJ doesn't want his TA anymore I am looking for a dd TA for Chicago... for about 1-1.5 yrs till I get to Philly and get a c6 or even the new maro? that'd be cool. 402 ls2 is cool but ain't good as a DD for Chicago for sure. I got my money back from the mods. the new owner (fabrizi) is happy and I am happy with the deal. and don't ask details on the transaction. it will be kept between us confidentially. win-win situation.
