LongTubes and ORY
Ok i have a couple questions, I am looking at getting some longtubes and would like to also install a cutout. What does ORY stand for? i know it is the y pipe that replaces the factory one but dont know the acronym. also is it necessary to get an ORY? thanks guys.

Off Road Y-pipe...a y-pipe with no cats, pretty much illegal in most states. It will set codes on your car which can be deleted with tuning. ORY give a better rumble and frees up more hp. Be careful though, an ORY and a cutout with headers will SCREAM

Is it possible to get a y pipe that still allows for cats? what will stock headers with a cutout sound like? I am finding out that lt's are illegal and am a little hesitant with thoughts of having problems passing state inspections.

Yes there are catted y's that come with headers. LTs ORY and a CB will net you around 30-40 RWHP with a good tune. A cutout with stock manifolds will get you anywhere from 8-12, depends on how the dyno feels that day. Look into passing emissions, LT and ORY are the way to go.

Wait now I'm confused.. Are you saying it is possible to pass inspection using an ORY without cats?

Probably not pass a visual inspection.

Well I live in New Jersey and I'm pretty sure they don't do a visual (or atleast one of my mechanics dont)... but i heard something about them putting a detector rod up to your exhaust pipes and checking the emmisions... has anyone heard of this? because i wont pass if that happens

And real quick, when you say delete the codes, you just mean hook up the rear O2 simulators right

it's called a 'sniffer'. most cars w/OBDII systems usually do not have to have the sniff test. I know mine did not after I bought the SS out of state and had it inspected. They just plugged into the port and since no codes threw, I passed. I also, got my car re-inspected (with cam) but before the LT's/ORY and passed. Next September it will be interesting to see if I pass since the car is noticably louder at idle since LT header install and tune...

Find someone who will pass you on the side "wink wink' for a few extra $$$. That's what I do over here in Philly

Yepp, as long as your not throwing any codes you should be fine, 02 sims will work or you can have the codes deleted. I have lt's and ory and they just plugged up the comp and gave me a sticker, no visual and no sniffer.
