can you manualy shift an a4?

i have 3200 stall torque converter and i usualy start in 1st gear then i shift my way up until almost red line. thats from light to light of course or on a straight away. i was wondering if i was slowly but surly damaging my trany oh and by the way my machanic put sum type of valve in my trany so it wouldnt lock up in 3rd and 4th gear. i think it went sumthing like that. dose any one kno what it is?

dont shift manually, you arent better at shifting than the computer.

The computer will kick down and upshift when it needs to anyways. Manual shifting makes you slower, and kinda defeats the purpose of an auto trans anyways.

Hmm. When I had my 89 formula I manually shifted the 700r4. Might be different with the newer ones.

I can understand the fun factor.
But letting the car make the shifts will allow it to be quicker.

what do you mean it hits the redline pretty fast. starting in 3rd should be the exact same as starting in D except you take your overdrive gear out of the equation. your 1st and 2nd gears will not be affected.

by rev up your stall I am assuming you mean footbrake it?? I footbrake mine to just before the breakin point for the tires. I have a 3200 stall as well and I footbrake mine to 3000 as soon as the tree lights up and then I give her hell

This thread is hilarious. Why don't all you guys that like shiftin autos manual try this, put it in N, rev it, and shove it into drive, its just like a clutch! wow. (lol). Shifting manually will not make you faster and you will prolly break something. The reason they are there is if you want to make sure your car doesnt shift up higher, say in bad weather etc.

And if you own sports car they should be sticks anyway, the only reason to have an auto is if you are one lazy and two drag racing (I am both haha).
