    Question Convertible Rim Size Help

Hello, I'm looking for information on wheel fitment for my '97 TA WS6 vert. I know the rear wheel housings are smaller than hard top or T-Top cars, but I want to go bigger and wider than the stock 16" x 8" rims. I'm looking at 18" wheels, but I'm unsure about how wide I can go and what the proper offset would be without requiring modifications to the car. I'd like to run at least a 275 tire. Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

Thanks. I would imagine a step up to 18" rims with 275/40-18 tires would work fine then too. The 18" rims I'm looking at are 8.5" wide with a +56 offset.

I have 18x9.5 with a 35mm offset on the rear of my 95 vert bird. I like the look of the wheel being flush with the fender.

Hey graveyardman, what size tires are you running on those wheels and do you have a pic?

I actually have a staggered wheel combo, 18x8.5 up front and 18x9.5 out back. I have Nitto 555 tires on all 4 corners; sizes are as follows 245/40/18 (F) and 285/35/18 (R).

    And here's a pic.

Thanks for the info and the pic. Nice ride!

So your rears have zero rubbing issues and you didn't have to do any fabrication either, correct?

So you have 18x9.5 with a 35mm offset on the rear, what is your offset on the front? Do you happen to have a pic of your car from the rear that shows how the tire sits in relation to the wheel opening?

    Thanks much for the info!

The only mod I did was to remove the rear fender lip because it was rubbing on the tire a bit. I should have went with a 275 tire instead of the 285. I also want to say that my bird is lowered. This may be a problem you run into if you choose a wheel with a 35mm or lower offset and your car is lowered. A stock ride height will not have the same problem. Also choosing a different brand tire along with a different size tire will affect the outcome.
