Black- 1998 Hurst Firebird LPE
Rarest of Birds
Googled "1997 Hurst Firebird by Lingenfelter" and found #4 of 9 on e-bay with less than three days bidding left. If you have the $$$$, you could have one of the rarest official Pontiacs ever manufactured. The only Hurst Firebird I've ever seen is 1998 Car#2 (in my garage)! I assume that the 1997 with the Lingenfeltered LT1 is nearly as awesome as the 1998 with the Lingenfeltered LS1. No idea why it is offered for sale, I do not expect to sell the 98. I'll let my kids figure out what to do with it!
Go for it, you won't be disappointed.Phil

Black- 1998 Trans Am WS6 'Vert
Dude, you've got to post some pics of your LPE T/A. Don't see those everyday.
BTW, a LPE employee told me only 9 '98s were built (same # as the '97s), seems black WS6s w/ M6s were in short supply back in those days (I can testify!). Are you sure yours is one of 11?

Collector Yellow (54U)- 2002 Trans Am CE
Those 98 Hursts are the BEST Black and Gold 4th gen.
First time I saw one was in a mag, I thought I was dreaming and that never could such a beautiful car be made.

yellow- 02 Collector Trans Am
Only 8 1969 trans am convertibles were made. 4 were automatic and 4 were manual. So thats more rare than 1 of 9. But damn, 1 0f 9 would be nice.

Black- 1998 Hurst Firebird LPE
Numbers and pics
I've heard that there were 9 in 1997 and also have heard thta there were 27 in 1997, so what's real. I've heard from LPE and read in GM High Tech Performance the number 11 for 1998, so I'm assuming that number to be real!
First time for pics, so hope they come through?

this would have to be the rarest of all the Birds considering it was the only one ever made by GM...1 of 1.
there were also 2-98 Formula convertibles ever made and 2-98 hardtop trans ams which would make them the second rarest of the birds.2000 WS.6 Trans am M6
402 W/APS Twin turbos for support...

Those two big ass holes are ram air scoops. I am sure they put in screen to keep out the large animal fawna. I hate getting possoms stuck in my ram air.

Thanks for the pics. What year is that Olds 88, about a '55-'56? (big Olds fan here).
I hear you about the production #s thing. For decades it was "gospel" that up until the '72s, there were only 2 Hurst/Olds 'verts built, in 1969, that were used to parade Linda Vaughn around at track events. Then earlier this year I stumbled upon some pics of a '68 H/O 'vert, one of 4 apparently, that were also used for events. Interestingly, the '68 H/O 'verts were Gold/Black instead of the Silver/Black like the "production" '68 H/Os. Also, Pontiac Enthusiast magazine featured a story some years ago on a '97 Hurst/LPE Firebird VERT, a one-off that was built for "marketing purposes". I still haven't figured out if that one was included in the "9" that were produced (your post it the first I've heard of the #27..... so I'm going to pretend I didn't see that ).
Some of the other obscure Olds that "intrigues" (pun intended) me are the '72 H/O Vista Crusers (used as general duty event cars at the '72 Indy 500), and the '69 W31 'verts (drag raced by the Smother's Brothers, supposedly the only year W31 verts were made). I also saw pics of what was claimed to be a legit '68 W31 'vert posted. I'm not sure if that car has ever been verified as a legit car or debunked as a "fake".
In any case, nice '98 Hurst/LPE 'Bird you have there.Last edited by JohnnyBs98WS6Rag; 09-17-2007 at 12:45 PM.
