oil change light
it's only been 1500 miles since my last oil change and every time i start my car the "oil change" light comes on. it only stays on for about a minute then turns off. i have plenty of oil and i'm not due for a change. i must admit it is just regular oil (nothin fancy like synthetic). does anyone know whats wrong? is it just a bad sensor? oh and my thermostat usually reads about 210... is that normal or a little hot?
i'd appreciate any advice

The "Oil Chage" light comes on based on the type of driving you do. It has nothing to do with the type of oil or how many miles since the last oil change. If you drive "agressively" (read: lead foot) then it will come on sooner then usual as the computer bases the type of driving vs the intervals between changes as the time to change the oil.

Or if you dont want to lose your trip mileage.. turn the key to on, hit the gas 3 times, turn it offf.. then start the car.. and the light will be reset. (I use synthetic as well.) Oh and if my car hit 200 it was HOT... It usually sticks around 190-195...

I did hear one negative thing about synthetic oil. If you start an engine on non-synthetic and then later use synthetic it softens the seals and gaskets and can create leaks. I don't know if this is true i just heard it from an old guy i work with. He seems to know what he's talking about and i'm pretty good at picking out the bull sh*tters. Any one else ever hear of this?

I don't know where you got your info but I suppose it could be used in 4-stroke motorcycle engines just as well as a car engine. Here is a link to the corporate site for 10W-40:

And yes, it works just fine here in AZ. My oil pressure gauge has never gone below 35 psi or so at idle. Car has almost 40K on it and I drive it pretty hard. Stuff is kinda pricey though.

That was true of oil years back.. but for the most part oil is oil... minus a few additives....

Ya the whole ignition gas peddle tap works to reset your oil light. I bought my car new and it had regular oil in it. I went the whole 3k miles and have been running mobile one ever since. As far as temp it runs about 190-195.

cool thanks for all the advice, i just did the trip odometer thing and it worked fine, i think the oil is fine i'll just put higher grade non synthetic in it (like regular mobil one) because my old car started leakin a little when i switched. i had someone tell me that the regular oil they put in my car is very thin and i might seize up a cylinder, but the guy who told me that is a moron. maybe i should flush my radiator or somethin becuase i'm kinda worried about that heat problem. it never gets way hot just a little warmer than i want. thank you for all the help guys

Your engine temp guage (like all of them since 99) is actually an "idiot guage". It only registers cold, operating and "Oh Shit" coolant temperature levels.

My car stays at 210, which is right in the middle of the gauge so i thought it was ok, but is it?
