Strange headlight switch problem

Hi guys..I just bought a 98 ta and have the strangest problem with the headlight switch. When I turn the switch to the parking lights..the headlights go up like I turned it to the headlights position, although the lights only come on when its turned to the headlight position...any idea where to start to find the problem. Switch, or some sort of relay? I have had many 85-97 t/as and have never run into this particular headlight problem. Any help or ideas is appreciated.

Possibly a minor problem with the switch or a relay some where. I don't know a whole lot about the 98s, but if the switch follows the the 01/02s the headlights should not open till you activate the headlights, and stay open when you turn the switch back to the park position. Also look for any rewiring, you never know what has gone on, on cars now a days.

my car started to do that when the headlight motor started to strip (keep running after they close) i put the new brass gear in it and it fixed itself... they come up now when i put the lights on...... is your gear stripping?

Guitar...funny you should ask that. The drivers side is doing the stripped gear running for 5 seconds after the headlight goes down...but did not link the two problems together. They both run right up with no problems. Think that is the cause?
