GM To Spec 20 weight motor oil
for its cars in 2009. CAFE sucks that ass! So you got a firebreathing 09 Camaro with a LS2. Gonna run 0-20 weight oil in it?
Let the battle begin!!!!!!!

Is it because of the cylinder deactivation thing?

What is CAFE?
Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) is the sales weighted average fuel economy, expressed in miles per gallon (mpg), of a manufacturer’s fleet of passenger cars or light trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 8,500 lbs. or less, manufactured for sale in the United States, for any given model year. Fuel economy is defined as the average mileage traveled by an automobile per gallon of gasoline (or equivalent amount of other fuel) consumed as measured in accordance with the testing and evaluation protocol set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Green- 94 Camaro 3.4
20W is a thinner oil... makes things spin eaiser, so there is less parasitic loss, so, better MPG. Like...... VERY VERY slightly better... however, there is a drawback... going that low will likely promote wear inside the engine, and increase oil consumption.
So, basicly, the automakers are scrambling for every MPG advantage they can, because the government are overcontrolling assholes.
that about sum it up for ya?

I'd tell my Dad to run a UOA and look at the wear metals. Track his MPG. Then switch to a 5-30 and do the same thing. That will cut through the shit so to speak. Here UOA's are cheap as hell.....

im not certain if the hemi in the trucks has it, but on the 300c/charger platform the hemi has cylinder deactivation, and the engine has to use the 5w20 to operate right. When I worked at the Ford/Chrysler shop, they were actually getting hemi engines with problems because of people using the wrong oil. I dont know all the technical specifics of the situation to tell you guys but I do know that that particular engine calls for specifically 5w20. As far as these new gm engines or the ford engines etc. Jus put in what you want basically.
