The law is the law.....I agree....resources should be spent on criminals and not lazy book returners....why dont he take the book back or pay for it?

It adds up when you have to re-buy each book that is not returned.

Along with PTing, I work at a department store as Loss Prevention. And I gotta tell ya, if a kid steals socks, hes going to jail.

Its not that I am a prick..I am. However, people just dont care about stealing sometimes nor the trouble theyve costed others. So fuck em!

Plus, its usually a retail theft charge, which is a low misdemeandor (sp?), so theres no jail time....unless its their 3rd time!

Adam Corolla had an over due library book with something like a $2000 fine or something like that. It was from his highschool. They held his diploma so he never had it. As a bit on his reconstruction show "The Adam Carolla Project", he went back and paid the fine so he could have his diploma.

I agree that theft is theft. I'm sure at the end of the day, you're just going to have to pay a fine for the book and some court costs.

The sad part of it is, it took a warrant for an over due book to get your friend's attention so your friend could get it taken care of.

A notice in the mail didn't exactly put a manpower crisis out there in the street for the police department!!! Some computer dude could send out tons of those in a day. A warrant comes with an LEO escort and limo service. This sounds like a civil summons.

I believe that 'overdue" fees never exceed the value of the book's replacement. The guy needs to cowboy up and pay the bill.

Shove the book up the librarian's ass? Gee, that's constructive. A nice little old lady who doesn't know a thing about it, but let's give her anal relief to make ourselves feel better.

That should show you how one crime leads to another.

Pay the damn fine, and quit rationalizing it away.

Our library doesn't have late fees. But they don't let you check out any more books unless you return the overdue stuff. I've probably still got a couple books that are several years overdue.
