Sunset Orange Metallic- 2002 Camaro SS M6
throttle body question
A friend of mine told me that an 80mm TB from a 6.0L Chevy pickup will bolt right on to the LS1. This would be a cheaper upgrade than to buy a 90mm TB from some other aftermarket retailer, especially if I port and polish it myself. Anyone have any feedback on that?

Why not just port and polish your stock 78mm to make it 85mm?

normally if you port your stocker you are usually only adding about 3mm to it and that is only done mainly around the outer portion, dont want to take it in to far I would think. If you took it to 85mm would you not have to change the linkage so you could fit a bigger blade in it?

Well im not sure, its just that i had heard of a ls1 speed shop near my house porting stock tb's to 85mm. I mean thats just what they say, but i wouldn't think they would be lying about it either.

They probably are not lying, perhaps they change the linkage and blade when they do it.

be carefull with swaping out TBs alot of people have problems with how the engine runs after they are on. not to mention the stock can handle around 500hp..so there really isnt any need to change it ya know?

mine took me 2and a half hours at my shop on my day off, just get a walmart griner set for 50 bucks and a sandpaper kit from the parts store and remove all sharp edges and the big lip right before the butterfly, sand it with 400 grit then 1000 then 2000 for a nice finish, mine turned out great... take your time

really all you need to do is polish it up. try not to mess with the tb too much, you'll be asking for trouble. like said before it can handle 500 hp so really it doesnt need any help..unless your pushing more then 500crank. but there is a tutorial on installuniversity.com if you must fittle with it.

I did mine and so did a couple other people around here. Just takes a day and some patience. Oh yeah and a dremel. basically there is just a bump in there before you get to the blade, just grind that our of there and wetsand the rest of the inside and then polish is up nicely. you will gain minimal hp though..
