High Pitch whistle noise! What can it be?
I have a 2000 T/A WS6 with 36k, and lately my car has been making a high pitch whistle noise almost like the sound of a low pitch supercharger. This happens every once in a while when i turn my car on, and it goes away after i drive it for a little bit... when i hit the gas the noise goes away, but when i let go it comes back.
I checked under the hood and it sounds like it is coming from the engine or near the engine, either inside it or might be one of the belts, if anyone knows what it can be, please let me know. Thanks.
Also is it normal to hear some noises coming from the rear of the car, like if the rear end is making cracking noises, sounds retarded i know, but let me know that you think.

well..
i have a 02 ta and my belt came off of track...
there is only one belt, a surpentine (sp?) but it was about half way of one one of the pullies...
that is my only guess is to see if the belt is on all of the pullies correctly...
hope this helps

The whistling noise should be your A.I.R. pump that puts fresh air through your exhaust during startup to reduce emissions. Im not sure 'bout the rear end noise though.

Agree the whistling noise could be the air pump - try pulling the AIR PUMP fuse under the hood to disable the pump while it's making the noise. LS1's have 2 belts, separate belt for the AC.

Mine was making the same noise under the same circumstances, and it was the AIR pump. Went away when I pulled the fuse.

I've got an LT1 that makes the same noise. I don't know nothin and I haven't pulled the fuse yet, but i'll bet you're right in saying air pump.

Can the noise be fixed? or pulling the fuse is the only way to make it go away? If so how do i know what fuse to pull? will this have any long term problems?

Pulling the "AIR PUMP" fuse under the hood is just to verify if it's the pump or not. Won't hurt to leave it out for a while - it will throw a SES light though - mine throws P0412, but it'll go back off by itself after a few cycles after reinstalling the fuse.

should the car be off or on when pulling the fuse or does it not matter?

Mine too...
And yes it does soud like a turbo or supercharger for a few minutes, kind of turbine like noise, it goes away, all good.
