    Is Flowmaster All That Bad?

with a 40 series muffler are there horsepower being robbed compared to others?most catbacks are basically the same just consisting on sound you prefer, around 10-15 hp on most catbacks?

If you go with the 3" in/duall 3" out, there is no problem with lost horsepower. It is the 3" in/dual 2.5" out that causes restriction. I have seen it on a dyno compared to a couple more popular free flowing systems.
I am unsure what 40 series system you are talking about?

80 series blow bawls. they are the crossflow and they aren't all that much better than stock from what i've heard. i've got a magnaflow made for an f-body and before i put it on i held it up and you can see light come thru, its a good flowing muffler

Yes, Magnaflow is a good flowing muffler. Just because you can't see light through the other end doesn't mean it doesn't flow good.

Exactly, from what you have heard, not what you know for a fact!

i know its hearsay, but i used to have a flowmaster 80 series, i didnt care too much for it, i like the other mufflers flowmaster makes, just not the crossflow 80 series.

also, i didnt mean that cuz i can see thru it it flows well, just saying that it is free flowing, as proof. there are alot of good free flowing catbacks out there.

    Very True!!

Flowmaster gets its shitty reputation with the F-Body croud because of its sound, or its lack of the famous Flowmaster sound.

I have some dyno sheets from tests, let me see if I can scan them and post them.

Size of the muffler, location, design, and the # of tailpipes has alot to do with sound and flow.

Is there a 40 series for the FBody? 80 is all I could find...

Ended up going with a Flowsound.

Whatever you do don't get a Flowmaster 80 series. I just tossed my Flowmaster 80 in the garbage, it was a piece of shit. It was very quiet, and the damn thing had to have weighed at least 20lbs. Its nothing but tons of baffles and restrictions inside of it, looks like a hedge maze lol.

I went with straight through Magnaflow mufflers for my new setup, and they sound great. Plus they are zero restriction, since there are no baffles to obstruct the exhaust flow.

Not in a catback system, Flowmaster only offers the 80 series "crossflow" for F-bodies.

If you want to use 40 series, you'd have to go custom.
