What happens if you throw a gear driving down the road at like 60mph. They are really cool looking but I don't think I would want to add un-neccesary moving parts to the inside of my wheels.

I really like the look of them, however I would think they'd slow you down too much. Moving parts and added weight=more rotating mass. Rotating mass sucks up horsepower. I realize not everyone needs to go fast, but do they want to pay the difference in gas mileage too? Who knows.
Cool, but you wont find them on anything I own.
