HELP,tuner says you cant raise shift points
Hi, Ive got a 00 a4 corvette with hollowed cats, ls6 intake ,02 zo6 cam., and 3.42 gears. My tunner at the chevy dealer dyno tuned my car without me there and it put out 319RWHP.
It still idles kind of rough but the thing that gets me is he says you can't or don't raise the shift points on my zo6 cam install! He says you can't accuratelly set shift point due to the highdrolics shifting qualities and it's best to leave them alone? Is this true? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

.....had a big reply typed out and changed my mind. If you're not happy with your tune/tuner I would search around for someone else and get a few references before going to see him. I think pretty much everyone with an auto moves their shift points up at least a little bit.

At least get a hand programmer to adjust them your self.

stock for most LS1 cars is 5900 rpms. bringing it to 6100-6200 rpms is a good help.

What kind of tuning programmer does he have ?? Most all handhelds and some full tuners don't address the 2 commands involved it programming a shift pont---shift at RPM and shift at vehicle speed---Hydraulic shifting qualities ?? have no idea what he means by that--other than some tuners go crazy on base line pressures--that table gradualy increases line pressurre with engine torque---with a max setting of 96 PSI---usually achieved near WOT--If you add too much you'll get horrible shifts because full pressure will be achieved way before WOT----I've tuned about 200 automatic vehcles and adjusted the shift points on all of them---even on non-performance type tunes to get better fuel mileage ,towing ability & tranny life--it helps get rid of the "hunting for gears" and engine "lugging" and the pinging associated with those issues

02 Z06 cam pulls much higher than stock and that's where you will make more power and lower e.t.s
You need to take advantage of the better breathing past 5900 rpms that the cam and intake will give you.
I would set it to shift at 6200-6400 rpms for the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.
Also, you could set quicker shift speeds, higher pressure and torque management delete.
HP is all in the tune.
Good Luck!

I would look for a new tuner for a few reasons. I don't want you to think I am being disrespectful to you, but those HP #s are what I would consider very low for your mods and I would suspect its due to your tuner.

Its time for a new tuner or buy hp tuners and start learning how to do it yourself

I don't think 319 RWHP is low---basically with only 2 mods--Z06 cam an LS6 intake--especially with an A4 drivetrain loss is approx 22% so that puts you at
389 flywheel HP ---Stock being 350 that's a a 39 HP increase--sounds about right for that cam and manifold change-----Stock Z06 has 405 flywheel HP and that extra 16 HP is achieved with the addition of the 243 heads

Whether your at sea level or not, doesn't really matter with weather correction (SAE corrected). What makes more of a difference is the difference from one dyno to the next, especially if one dyno is an inertia wheel dynoe (Dynojet) and the other is a load style (Mustang) dyno.
Type of tranny is also a big factor.
