LS1 vs. 1.8T
Hello Gents,
To introduce myself, I'm the fella at H-I.com that claimed to beat LS1's in his Jetta. I was shown the thread where I called a stupid kid. Honestly, I'm 31 and could care less. I just don't remember the last time I was called a stupid kid by a grown man, or woman. Go figure.
I didn't come on here to start anything, though. I just thought you might like to know what happened.
Here is the thread:http://www.houston-imports.com/forum...d.php?t=364552
Here is the contents for the lazy, like me:
"I ran into a old military buddy of mine somewhere on the outskirts of Laredo, Mexico. We got to talking about old times and he asked me what I was into lately. I explained about my Jetta and he mentioned that he had just bought a used Camaro SS. I questioned him about it being stock and it was but for an intake. I told him about the debate here on H-I and was willing to run it out for me to see what happens.
Unfortunately, I don't have it on video. I'm sorry.
Run 1- From a dig- He pulls out 2-3 cars. I close in a bit through my midrange. Top of 3rd, he is 2 cars out.
Run 2- 40 roll- I pull out 1 car (he's at my rear bumper) and maintain through ~100mph. We shut down.
Run 3- 60 roll to top end- I pull a fender to ~100mph. I run out of power at 120mph. He doesn't.
I gotta say. You guys were right. It wasn't so easy. I can only assume that the other drivers were auto, or shifting too early. Regardless, I'm happy."
So, it wasn't as easy as I made it out to be, but with the way some of you were talking, I'm perfectly okay with that outcome.
Here is a photo of my "riced-out" car:
The engine:

if you ran out of power at a 120 hes still gonna pull all the way to a 160-165 mph dont ever race till top end with us, especially a 6 speed

I'd only need a quick fill up on race gas to beat one. I'm not going to argue the point, though. I don't deal in "what if's".
It was a 4th gen, manual tranny SS with an intake. That's all I was concerned about. It's not easy finding a stock LS1 out there. I had to get while the gettin' was good.
I am an i4. There was no doubt in my mind he was gonna pull me on the top end. My car tops out at 160 mph. There is no more after that.

Snub nose. I don't know what year, brother. If I knew, I'd tell you.
Look, hutch, you're 18 and have a relatively quick car, so I can understand why you're having a hard time swallowing this. I live in Houston, TX. 5500 people is a drop in the bucket to a city that large. Nearly everyone I approached had some sort of work done, or were a college chick who had no interest in racing.
...And that's my cue. I expected no less from your reactions, and I'm not going to banter back and forth with about it. I'll probably check in for my entertainment, unless I'm banned, but you won't be hearing anything more from me.
Have fun.

Living in houston you have a shit load of people which was my point, i think it would be easy to find a stock one, just go to a car show.

Stock or not you can get an LS1 for 9k-12k no problem. How much was your car plus mods? (curiosity is killing my cat)

i was asking what yr because it makes a BIG difference as 93-97 are lt1s not ls1s usually run about 50 less rwhp stock and since u said intake im assuming its an lt1 because ls1s generaly have lids on them when upgraded not intakes......nice car though..have fun with it thats all that really matters anyways....not who says what on whichever board

I cant imagine anyone that would modify a jetta to those levels, would NOT ask a lil more about his buddies car.
What year?
What mods?
Intake? What do you mean, intake manifold or air intake setup?
These are basic questions to any car nut.Last edited by mrr23; 02-20-2007 at 05:14 PM. Reason: removed expletive
