A direct bolt-in would be a shorty header and they've only yielded around 10-12 hp. New they are around $800...in short, there are better modifications to make for the money.

You could buy a used set of LT headers for around $1,000 (or less if you are willing to wait for the right set). This should get you closer to 30 hp and improve the sound of your car. If you get Long Tube headers, there are other expenses to consider, like a computer tune, O2 extenders, gaskets...

They don't put out as much as the more expensive brands such as kooks, lg, dynatech. They will work just great for you and the price is right. This system has no cats on it. If you do put these on, they will set the check engine light, especially if you don't have the rear 02 simulators or a tune. Also if you can get a used Z06 ti cat back, will sound awesome!!

don't waste your time with shorties, expensive as hell and no where the extra power lt's add.

You can reuse your stock mainfold gaskets. If you want you can go to Gm and get a new set for around $25. They work great just watch yourself since they are sharp.

all i can say is STAY AWAY FROM THESE HEADERS.....
its a LONG story.... i wont bore you.... just STAY AWAY !!!!!

imo.... ARH is the BEST kit out there.... best quality, and EASY to install...

also, as a C5 owner DONT EVER search for the cheapest items...
you will soon regret it., shop for quality products with a FAIR price.

why dont you save up $1,500 and get a quality SS set-up.

I realize this thread is about C5 headers, but I have to say that the Kooks on my C6 fit awesome and were relatively easy to install, but then again, after working on an f-body, anything is easy.

Hp wise with just heads/cam and bolt ons, not a whole lot. The 1 7/8" headers are more towards F/I and spraying nitrous. The 1 7/8" headers will flow more, which you will need when you really add more power. I went with 1 7/8" headers since I was eventually going to get a supercharger. I dont think that there was a price differance with the kooks i bought. I will say the Kooks 1 7/8" headers were a big PITA to install.
