How much is a 96 ss worth?
Hey all, some guy near chicago has a black 96 ss with 28K miles on it for sale. He is the original owner, the car is mint. All slp options were installed factory and he has the original paperwork. He wants like 17 large for it, is it worth it due to the history and miles?

I got 10K for my BLACK 97SS from insurance with 135,000miles on the odo. The best car I ever owned. I would take a 96,97 SS over a 98> if it wasn't for the LS1! They are collectors cars and the only cars to be built by SLP in house!

I paid 13,500 for my mint 97SS 3 years ago; had 32k miles on it.
You should be able to find a low mileage SS for 10-13k

Bright Rally Red- 1996 Camaro SS
I paid 11k for mine 3 years ago. but it had over twice the mileage that one has and only a few options (mostly cosmetic) i would go between 14-15 top dollar for it. can you get the car # it should be on a plaque on the dash. if its a lower number it "could" be worth more. they will start to gain value within 5 or so years. but until then its just going to make for better bargains.
I too love the LT1 SS's dont think i will ever put down coin on a LS-SS maybe a vette tho

Silver- 2000 Camaro SS
$17k is too much. Maybe if it had less than 10k miles, but if you want it get it. I'd offer $10k and go from there.

Still don't know if it's a 6 spd or auto if you are paying more than top bucks, It better be a six speed.
I have both + in these cars I actualy like the Auto's better, (They just seem beastier, like ALL the power is Always imedietly available.) BUT for resale ease + value the 6spd is tops.
You would be better off getting a 98 + up low mile Z for $9 - $12k
There is a pristine 01 Z near me(massachusetts) 29k mi auto, bright red,T-roofs,60ish year old owner,mint, mint , mint
for $10k Ilooked at it the same day i bought mine, but I wanted the mystic. Its still for sale, in todays want ad
Can probably be had for $9K, you'd be infinetly better off paying a thousand to have that shipped to you, or fly out + drive it home, (It just cost me $129 thru expedia with only 1 days notice to fly to Ohio to get my SS, but i elected to truck that one home.)
E-mail me if you want the guys #, I drove it + it is clean, not 1 mod. Or i can sell you my really clean 98-Z/28 just hit 70k mi for 10 grand less than the 96 SS.Justfor comparison, There is a 60k mi 02 RAM AIR Trans Am 6 spd CONVERTIBLE also nearby for $15k or B.O,Higher miles but a better deal Shop around. The other thing to consider is it may be difficult to get an Auto loan on a soon to be 11 year old car, if one is needed. And personal loans have crazy rates. Hope this helps.

Oh! ididn't know you were specifically looking for that year + model. In that case sounds perfect for you especially being local,I wish my ss would have been local, It was a lot of travel + added alot to the total price of the car. I'm glad i got it but it was a lot of work.
$17,000 is still too high + it will sit for a long time, start low stay after it you'll,own it right.
Half the fun is knowing you got a great deal.
But for the first time in my life,I just payed the asking price, even got talked up in price,+ added 1800 in trucking + travel, For that must have car.The exact one i wanted, so Good Luck, let us know if you get it.
