Ihave a '98 ls1 can I use a '99 + computer and har

I have a '98 ls1 that I am putting in a '54 Merc. I have no ecm or harness. Can I use a newer ecm and harness or must it be a '98? Assuming I can use the newer ecm and harness, is there any advantage/disadvantage in doing so?

Being new to the forum, I mistakenly posted to the Ws6 portion. All I got was one non-sense answer so I thought I would try here for a serious answer.TIA

Yes, if you have the chance ditch the 98 PCM for a 99-up PCM and harness, ESPECIALLY if you aren't keeping the engine stock. The 98 PCM is limited and is well behind the curve as far as control goes when compared to later PCMs. If you are styaing bone stock it won't make a huge difference either way, but I still would ditch the 98 PCM.
