    Thumbs down Polymer Engine Mounts

My Engine is out of the chassis for Head/cam upgrades. When it goes back in I am considering using Polymer engine mounts. My car has 108K on it and although the mounts look good I have the opportunity to replace them. Good/bad idea?

Not a bad idea really, especially if you have headers and a y-pipe. I wish I had done that myself.

Is prothane the only brand or has anyone found others? From what I hear you have some more vibration but no worries about headers and such banging around.

I used Prothane. It does give a lot more road noise, but at 108k I would replace them. Mine had 122k when I did the headers, heads, cam etc etc. Another "while your in there" mod. I also did my tranny mount in poly. I didnt think it vibrated much, but a buddy drove it the other day and says its definately vibrating more. I dont care because I am more interested in performance than confort.

No matter what your choice though, at your mileage replace them with something. Even if its new OE mounts.

Careful with the Prothane mounts. They lift the motor up just a hair....and if you have a low sitting strut tower brace (like SLP's) it can break your intake.
I got lucky, just took a little plastic off my FAST 90mm, the raised lettering on it got chipped a bit.

Yeah, but those Pacesetters fit really nice with them.

Definitely go with poly mounts if you're going with heads/cam upgrades. My stock drivers side mount was toast at 87K, the heat really takes its toll on the rubber.

The last thing you want with a ton of power is the powertrain moving around in the chassis, thats how things get broken.

I upgraded to poly mounts when I did my headers. Definitely more vibs and road noise, but its good to know the motor and trans aren't moving all over the place when you're ripping on it. Not to mention it prevents the exhaust from banging the floor as well, which can get really annoying.

Thanks for the input! the engine is going back in with the Prothane mounts. I value speed first! I will be very careful with the tower brace, I run a BMR brace. My tranny mount is already a prothane mount.
