    Thermostat

Picked up my new (used) 94 TA last night. I'd driven it before. Noticed that the heater never warmed up to blow warm air.-33 degrees outside. Drove it 20 miles or so to town. However, when I was in town, I let it idle for a couple of minutes and the temp gauge got warm. Past the half way point. Do you guys know if the thermostate sticking open caused it?

Also, I looked this morning at the set up. Is it easy to chage the thermostat? It seemed all you had to do was unhook the front air induction and take the two bolts out.

Both my 94 Z's did this. They would get warmer when you just let them idle, but driving them kept the temp at a moderate level. I think this has to do with RPM's and the water pump. Since it is driven off the motor, the faster the motor turns, the more water it pumps. So, the slower the motor, the less water it pumps. Therefore, idle doesn't pump as much water as, say 2000rpms.

I noticed in traffic or at a light, my temp gauge would get up there. But once I started driving and cruising at 2K rpms, the temp would go back down. Just my theory though.

But once I got a 160* t-stat, the temp gauge never goes above ~185* or so.

First check to make sure that warm coolant is going to the heater core. Could be several things, stuck thermostat, heater door not opening all the way, plugged up heater core.

I kinda have the same problem, Try bleeding the system, Crank the car let it warm all the way up, There is a bleeder valve comming of the heater hose from the waterpump. Crack that open until you get all the air out of the system. This seems to of helped mine, But it still doesnt get really hot.

I have changed the radiator and thermostat, But not due to the heater and it seems to not affected it any.

Also with a 160 thermostat that will only make the car run cooler not lettting the heater get any warmer.

I flushed it and changed the thermostat. I guess when it's just 32 outside, everything is going to be cold.
