    Differential?? 273s or 323s ???

ok...so...I'm not a mechanic...and even though I try to keep up with my tech as much as I can...

I still have no Idea what Gears my rear end has... and what's the difrence between the gears...and what makes the 10-bolt so weak? or lesser to a 12-bolt or whatever?...

So if I could get some clear cut answers or links to some good informational reading for dummies... I'd appreciate it...

    btw... it's a Automatic... from 1999... Z28...

GU4 is 3.08. Has to be either GU2 (2.73) or GU5 (3.23). See if it has an alum drive shaft, although it could've been changed. You can also check out a calculator like www.f-body.org/gears/

    Sadly now demodded :(

Current 10-bolt in you car has a ring gear diameter of 7.5". Compare that to a 12-bolt which is 8.875" or a Ford rearend which will have a ring gear diameter of 8.8" or 9". As your car gets more powerful (drivetrain wise - and that includes suspension. i.e., control arms, torque arm, etc.) heavier duty items tend to take the punishment better. They don't call them "Severe or Heavy Duty" parts for nothing.
