man, that's been around here for years! In fact, there were some privacy issues raised when a congressman (if I remember right) was mailed a ticket that had a picture of him and his mistress speeding. His wife was the one that opened the mail so they stopped using them for a while as he was fighting to say they were a civil violation or something like that.

how would a camera'ed infraction prevent an illegal alien, someone without insurance, or a drunk driver from being taken off the road? snail mail camera ticket for speeding...lol
how fast is too fast? what about speeding law enforcement not responding to a call? would they 'beat the system', etc?

RED LIGHT CAMERA ARE BS LET ME TELL YOU WHY
They were installed in San Diego a few years back, after installing the cameras the yellow light time was reduced from 4 seconds to 2 seconds hence generating more tickets on those who would not normally recieve them.
In addition the insurance companies lobbied Sacramento, more tickets, then you can charge people more for their insurance.
They tell you it is for safety but it is to generate more money for cash strapped cities and more money for insurance companies.
At $271.00 a ticket there is lots of incentive to screw over the people.
So if you reduce yellow light times you are indeed making the intersection MORE dangerous than before.

They have those many places in England. But they also have road signs informing drivers that the speed cameras are ahead, so most drivers would slow down.
Then they figured out they could make people slow down AND save money, by only posting the signs...

NC law saved the tax-payers in Charlotte where we had both speed cameras and red-light cameras.
According to State Law the majority of the monetary fine has to be provided to the State Educational System. In Charlotte, the majority of the fine was provided to the "vendor" of the systems. Law-makers said shut 'em down, and they went bye-bye.
I always wondered what would happen if you went on the wrong side of the road through the red light camera. Not sure if that would trip it or if the camera was angled in a way where the tag would show.
BTW, that spray stuff people say will hide your tag? Not very effective.
