I'm assuming we are talking about the lugnut studs not the plastic caps for the lugnuts. If not sorry for the misunderstanding.

Maybe a dumb question...but are you using a torque wrench or torque stick when tightening the lugnuts?
Or are you letting the impact gun run full bore?

Improper torque can cause breakage issues.

I got into the habit of using a torque wrench on most automotive fasteners due to working with aircraft over the years. Also I've found that I've had less issues with breakage or warpage following torque specs in the repair/maintainance manuals.

I'm even running a 7/32" wheel spacers on the front wheels to prevent the dreaded wheel to strut rub the car was experiencing. Lugnuts still tight, no issues even with the spacers.

I torque mine to 100lbs and never had an issue. Yes it would seem I need to tighten them more but you'll break em off

no torque wrench, just using impact gun, maybe i need to try and use torque wrench and see how it goes from there

You have to be careful using impact guns. There is no telling how much torque is being applied while pulling the trigger. Depending on the guns output, it can easily exceed the recommended torque value of the fastener being tightened.

If want to continue to use an impact gun to tighten your nuts (no pun intended) I would suggest investing in a set of "Torque Sticks." Even a set from Harbor Freight will do the job. They come in varying "torque values." I torque my stock alloy wheels to 100 ft.lbs as Sarge does. Anything after that will stress the lug stud, distort the wheel, and cause the brake rotors to prematurely warp.

Sarge, very cool screen name BTW. I've had that nickname at work for many years now, due to my military background. It's my screen name at C3VR.com and even my license plate on my vette "SARGE81."

Are the wheel studs on the front and rear of the car the same? Meaning do the rear studs connect to the hub like the front ones or are they seated in the axle? I was driving around tonight and heard a scraping noise in the rear. Thought it was the warning tab on the brake pad. Further inspection showed 3 broken studs and one wearing out. So I am trying to find out what I am up against to fix it.
