    '02 Ta Dtc P0430

The engine has 60K miles on it and is stock with an aftemarket lid. The catalytic converters are stock with only a Flowmaster muffler installed. I have read the manual and it says that the Cat is most likely bad provided there are no damaged wires to the sensors and they are functioning correctly. Have any of you LS1 guys had any experience with this trouble code and found anything else that could contribute to setting P0430? If the cat/cats are bad are they covered under any government mandated emissions warranty since there is only 60K miles on them? I purchased the car second hand with no dealer warranty.

    thanks for your help
    Jim

Jim, since you are the second owner, did you get the recall notice regarding the cats? I still have my notice around here somewhee if you need the info. I don't, however, have any of the offending cats they speak of.

no letter, I've only had the car a few months. I cleared the code. Next time it comes up I'l take it to the dealer and see if they'll replace it.

On a related note, which aftermarket cats do ya'll use and do you have any trouble with them not being compatible with the PCM thereby throwing codes.

And why not? OBD2 Emissions testing applied only to trouble codes stored in the PCM. No SES light, no problem.

I live in an emissions county therefore until my car is (at least) twenty five years old I have to have the cats on the car.

I understand that, but what I'm getting at is outside of a visual inspection, there is no actual sniffer test for OBD2 vehicles. I'm sure you could easily circumvent a set of mock up cats if you wanted to.

Not too worried about tweaking out a bit of extra performance right now.
