Smile First trip to dragstrip with my first LS1 car

    2000 Camaro SS A4 w/342 gears
    P.I. Vigilante 3600 stall
    JetHot longtubes & ORY
    Stock catback
SLP lid and free ram air
    self ported TB
Nitto 275/40/17 drag radials (at 32psi) no different at 20psi

Nice first and second gear burnout
Launched at 1300 rpm's every run
Left car in DRIVE with ASR OFF every run
Car hit rev limiter (cough, cough, cough 3-4 times at every 2-3 shift)
I never had car re-tuned/tweaked after converter swap and gear change (my fault and probably gave up easy 2/10ths)

I didn't make note of what rpm the car was going through traps at though

    anyway...definitely a bracket car, LOL

    12.74@106 1.77 60' (8.09@84 1/8th)
    12.72@107 1.79 60' (8.09@84 1/8th)
    12.74@106 1.77 60' (8.09@84 1/8th)
    12.71@107 177 60' (8.088@84 1/8th)

I want to try once more (after a stop at the tuners) because I think 12.50's are attainable as-is, but with the car not hitting the limiter on 2-3 shift on every pass.

I also have a NOS brand dry kit 90% installed, and a 226*/.595" cam waiting to install...

Nice numbers indeed. I have not had mine tuned since my LT and ORY, my best ET has been a 12.99 @ 107.9, 60 foots of 2.08-2.12. I did turn a 13.23 @ 108.9, 60 foot was a weak 2.28 I think on that run. I would like some drag radials, but am worried about the differential with 60 foot times like yours!

    Thanks.
I cringed at every GREEN bulb...LMAO

It seemed fine though, with pre-loading it at 1300 rpm's.

Fine = no crunching, clunking, grinding, or tow trucks...

Good times, they are almost identical to mine. The cars have almost the same mods, except I have a 3200 Vigilante, 3.73 gears and XS LT headers. I am going to try for the 12.50's this weekend, as there is a DOT shootout at a local track, and the weather should be a lot better for power.

I'd get a tune to change your shift points. You don't need a tune after headers but after a converter it's a good idea.

I'm going to just wait until after my cam swap is done to go back for re-tuning. I was going to shoot for 12.50's with stock longblock, but I really don't have alot of free weekend time so I'm going to go forward with cam swap and finish up the nitrous wiring. Should be done in a few weeks.

Although some say it wasn't needed, I had car tuned after longtube header & off road Y pipe swap, mainly to turn off SES light for the AIR/EGR and rear O2 codes that were set, but car was very lean. We found roughly 20rwhp and about the same amount of rwtq when a/f was richened up. Also turned off torque management at that time.

FWIW, car made 322rwhp/318rwtq on Mustang Dyno when stock torque converter was still in the car.

    And a custom cam...

I went ahead and tried again this evening, even though car still hits limiter bad and noses over at 2-3 shift.

    Went 12.66@107 (1.76 60 foot)

I'm done until nitrous and cam swap is complete...

    Thanks.
I actually chose the Nittos for that reason...so I wouldn't be swapping back and forth if/when I go to track. Next Spring with cam and nitrous done, I plan to look into some actual true sticky tires and some skinnies, more than likely.

2 Tuesdays ago my car did a new best, with a 2.01 60 ft, of 12.89 @ 109.89, racing my friends '99 Vette. Racing him always gets me a new best! Yeah, I beat him, his was 13.1 @ 107 I think, he hasn't hit the 12s yet. (I only have 2x so far).

    Thanks again everyone.

Plans have actually changed since the original post.

    Nittos have been sold.

New cam is in and car is waiting it's turn to be re-tuned.

Nitrous kit has been sold, and I've decided to go naturally aspirated for the time being.

This Monday I go to pick up my new 15x3.5/15x10 Weld ProStar, 275/50/15 MT Drag Radial combination.

Bob- glad you finally got that cam in there and glad Jeff got your tune all squared away. Nittos are crap IMO glad you decided to go with the Mickeys. Look forward to running with ya at Cecil in a few weeks. We both got some new bests to shoot for. See you soon.
