    Question Suspension Conversion

Where are my LS1 knowledgeable buddies?

I need some real good opinion that no one on the Internet or forum has.

My 2001 Ford Expedition with rear Air Suspension has died, thus, I want to convert over to springs. The job is an easy one that the shops have quoted me $150 to do.

My question entail whether I can do this job by myself at home? If I prop the rear quarter vehicle body up on 21" inch stands, support the differential to remove air suspension and shocks using a lift, do you believe that I will find enough clearance to stick the new SPRINGS in?

I'm afraid halfway through I won't be able to find enough clearance to stick those springs in and will really be shit out of luck. You have to remember it's an SUV with good clearance already to begin with, thus, more is a necessity.

    Thanks for your opinion,
    Matthew

I think you will have enough clearence that way but if you take the rear tires off then after the bags are unbolted the rear can come down thus giving even more clearence just keep the jack under the rear end so it will be easy to raise back up

for $150 I would probably have it done though good luck

    Wink Bad Home Job

Thanks for the reply Joe. After work yesterday, I took a good close look at the Expedition when I came home. I measured the body underhand, clearance and all that.

To get more clearance, the removal of the rear tires are necessary, but that would not be enough to work those big springs in there.

I called a shop and was going to drop off the vehicle tomorrow morning. But at any rate, I manage to raise the rear suspension and found the switch off.... so I raised and then switch off the system to keep the rear suspended. I don't know the adverse of the effect with the rear raise and the system being off though. I'm prolonging the shop. Evidently there are no leaks in the system for the rear stayed up since yesterday.

Thanks for the suggestion buddy. This is not a good job to do at home.
