    Stall Converter Help

Had a question, I need a stall for my car, yet I have no idea which one I need. You can ask me any question about how a motor or tranny work and I can usually answer it, but when it comes to Stalls, I am in the dark. Why have a higher stall speed? How high is to high of a stall speed on a everyday driver? What exactly does a "lock-up" converter do? I am kinda trying to figure this out to help myself fgure out what stall is right for my car, any help you guys can give will REALLY be appreciated.--Tony

It all kind of depends on your use of the car, street strip? Or just drag? I have heard of stall converters around 3000 on a daily driver though I probably wouldn't go much higher than 3500 on one (too much throttle), as for brand all have their pros and cons, I have heard of good things about yank converters, I am looking at a 3200 torque converter right now

Best advice anyone can give you is to contact a company that manufactures torque converters. Personally, I like Fuddle racing converters because when I contacted them clueless as to what would be needed for my car in terms of a converter, they (John) answered all of my questions, sized the converter for my car & needs, & delivered it when he said it would be delivered even when he had to pay extra shipping to meet the deadline. Will be finished with the install tomorrow & expect it to perform flawlessly as others have experienced using Fuddle.

There are several others as well. Have read that many people like TCI, Yank, ....etc..

I don't see the Super Yank 3500 on their site but they talk about it on that page...

What makes Vigilante better? Also those prices are insane...

Thanks for all the help guys, they told me I was prolly gonna need a 3200 but I cannot decide if that is to much for everyday driving or not. What do you guys with 3200 stalls on your daily drivers think of them?--Tony

3200 is fine for a daily driver.

I have a 3000 stall in my 01 Z28, and if I had to do it all over, I would have gone with a 3200.

3200-2.0 str, is just about perfect for a daily driver/street rod, IMO.

What about when I get the nitrous done, will the 3200 still be enough of a stall?--Tony

I have a Vig 2800 and no problems on daily drive. I also cut my 60' from 3.23 to 1.8 and my ET from 14.3 to 13.7 and this was when I had 3.23 gears and at 5300 ft.
