Need hunting rifle suggestions
I'm going deer hunting next week, but I don't have a rifle. I used to live in NY and hunting with a rifle is illegal (we used shotguns). I need suggestions as to what hunting rifle would be the best for the money. I'm going to a gun show on Saturday so if anyone has any suggestions as to what I should be looking for, let me know. Thanks!!!

The best gun for the money is Savage or the new Stevens(a no frills Savage).

06 PBM GTO(458WHP)SOLD!!- 06 TR GTO~476WHP 425TRQ
i say if you think your only gunna use it for this trip and its no long range shooting. 30-30. But if its not get a 30-06, 7mm mag.

Depends on what you are hunting in. if it is really dense a simple 30-30 or .35would do. If you are hunting somwhere that there is a possiblity of a 100+ yard shot i would recommend a 270 short mag, 7mm, or 308 which are all high velocity, accurate rounds lots of stopping power and verly little drop after 100yds. As far as brands check as many as you can out and get what feels the best to you. I use a remington model .788 .308 caliber that was passed down to me from my grandfather and it has never failed me.
If you feel you may want to move up to bigger game, get something that fits your needs now and can also fit your needs then

Remington MDL 700 ADL(I believe) .270 or .308. Stronger bolt than a Browing. Accurate. Light.
There's many variations of stocks with the Mdl 700, the one I'm referring to is black synthetic with blued barrel and trigger.

I've been looking leaning towards the Winchester model 70 (.270 and 7mm) and the Browning A-bolt. I've looked at a Weatherby Vangaurd model, Weatherby Mark V, and a Remington 700, but I'm keeping my options open at this point. I don't think I want to go as high-grain as a 30-30 or 30-06; 7mm would probably be the largest caliber I'd go.

.270 is a good choice. if i were you i would go with a .270 short mag... its a 270 round with the powder charge of a 30-06 (i believe) and is right at 3280 fps muzzle velocity

All you need is a 30/30 with a scope.

I've had a winchester M70 chambered in .270 for years, never failed me, I've used it on coyotes to elk, great gun. I definitely would recommend the .270 for deer and anything smaller, but if you plan on moving up to larger game I'd go with either a 7MM mag. or a 300 win. mag. But the .270 has a very flat trajectory, which makes it very accurate, and if you don't like the re-coil get it magnaported and you'll love it.

I really like the 25-06 and the 270 is a good caliber too but you don't need anything much over a 30-06 for deer unless you plan to elk hunt someday. My biggest suggestion would be go bolt action, stay away from semi autos and pumps they are just plain inaccurate.
P.S. Rugers are great I can't beleive no one has suggested them and dont forget your gun is only as good as your scope, don't go buy a $700 dollar weatherby then get a $40 tasco scope, If you want the best go leupold, or at the very least a bushnell or simmons.

i have to agree on most of these, .270, .280, 25-06, good all around guns. I shoot a 6mm, its remingtons version of the .243 winchester. I've shot tons of deer, from a .300mag to a .22 hornet(blah blah, its my truck gun, head shoot them..) i suggest a .260(short action for quicker follow ups) or a .270, they dont kick much and they knock em flat...only if you make a good shot, that should be your #1 goal is shot placement
