Intermittent loss of gears

I have a 6 speed and last night I could not get the car into 2nd or 4th gear (never tried 6th). I figure a visit to the dealership is in my future but I figured I'd post here first to see what the experts thought.

I had that problem as the master cylinder for the clutch was failing. That might not be your problem, but I'd definitely get it to a shop soon.

have you installed a new shifter lately ???

it seems odd that you cannot find 2ND or 4TH

if the master cylinder was bad, it could not choose which gear it didn't want to shift into - it would do it in all gears

if you have a problem with 6TH gear also than i would suspect
shifter / linkage problems
