Windows One Care Anti-Virus will disable it which is good as it is a kind of a buggy resourcey program.

i thought this was an anti- mac/linux thread i was 'bout to throw up the fists.
you should only run 1 virus protection program, if that's what you're asking.

"Defender" is anti-spyware, not anti-virus. It is a resource hog but I leave it on.

Ahh ok. If I ran Windows I wouldn't use it. I used to only run Ad-aware and Spybot scans weekly. Never had a problem.

Lavasoft has an Ad-Aware Beta 2007 for you to try as a Beta Tester.
It is a completely unstable program as most Betas are.

I quickly went to back 1.06 after BetaTesting the 2007.
The 1.06 on Vista doesn't seem to do the job on Vista as it does on XP though.
So damn.

If you're in Vista ... apparently there are far and few in-between Anti-virus/ Spyware/ Spam/Phishing programs that are out yet .
I love Norton but I think it's still in a Beta type config.
Windows One Care is the Anti-Virus/Phishing Blocker/Spam controller/blah blah I use because it is designed to use with Vista right from the free download.
It turns off Defender because it has a better defender built in.
You can turn any firewall off if you don't mind your little tray icon blaring you in the face in red telling you to turn it back on.

I was plagued with a shit load of spyware. All sorts of pop ups and icons appeared on my computer. I purchased Webroot Spysweeper and problems were solved.
