1-4 skip shift
Hey guys, I have had my GTO 04 for about 2 weeks and every once in awhile when I get on it I get this displayed and its like the only 2 closest gears (I'm in first) I can get into is 3rd of 4th. Any idea how to get rid of this or is it there for a reason?
Thanks in advance

the cars come with a fuel savings feature - when you are going light throttle it makes you shift from 1-4 to save gas. You can get rid of it by doing a simple mod. Go to installuniversity.com under LSX cars then install documents then its under transmission.

It's called CAGS - as noted it blocks you from going from 1st to 2nd gear.
Parameters in the PCM are less than 21% of full throtle or greater than 4,000 rpm.
Several web sites sell two caps which allow you to discount it from the trans, cap off both ends and strap it so it doesn't hang down. Including shipping = $20.00 and takes less than 15 minutes to install.
I think it's installed to prevent roasting and twisting up the rear end as well.
With all that torque eventually a weak point will be found somewhere along the drive line.

You do not need the Cags skip shift eliminator. Just unplug the wire from the sending unit on the right side of the trans. Then tape up the plug end to keep the dirt out of it, in case (?????) you ever want to use it again. Also, use a plastic tie strap to keep the plug from touching the ground. There are no electric issues raised by simply unplugging the unit.
Hope this helps. Red.

No issues at all, do you have it done this way?

I had purchased a superchips programmer and the option to disable that is in there and it works great now, never miss 2nd now.
But thanks for all the advice.

The answer to the question is yes I simply unplugged and taped the connection and it works fine.

Bringing this back for a question... I found this pic of an 05's undercarriage, and I was wondering if the CAGS is where I think it is...
Is it that blue and white clip on the right side of the tranny? Hope so, because Im ordering the eliminator as I type this...

From what I see, that is the reverse switch and harness. I think the CAGS harness is under the center console. I found a skip-shift eliminator harness in my car over the summer. I disconnected it and threw it out as some of the wires had burned. I have a tune anyway so the CAGS is disabled.

CAGS disable
If you just unplug the solenoid, you will get a "check engine" light. You have to put a resistor across the solenoid leads and tape it up. Some write-ups say to use a 10 watt 15 ohm resistor, but I used a 1 watt 10 ohm resistor from Radio Shack, and it works just fine. You'll still get the little light on the dash telling you to shift from first to fourth, but you can go to any gear you want.I don't know why the other people who replied here didn't get a check engine light. If you leave the check engine light on,you won't be able to pass emissions test.
