Here is my M6 Trans Am gas mileage with cam/headers

First the details....I drove from my house in NE Philly to the Joisy shore and back. I had the T-Tops off and windows down for both rides, which from what I understand would worsen gas mileage with the extra drag on the car. I drove in stop and go for around 20 minutes total, the rest was pretty much 6th gear using 5th to pass. I launched like a bat outta hell at ALL ligts and toll booths. Here are the stats:

    211.6 miles total
    8.11 gallons of gas used=
26.1 miles per gallon rounded off (26.091 to be exact)

Not bad huh? I figured for around 20 or so with all my mods(in sig below), 26+ is a major surprise/bonus for me. To have a hog in the driveway with 425+ hp/tq and still get 26 mpg I am happy

Sounds normal for a easy drive in an Fcar M6. How is it came to the "425+hp/tq " rating? Which is it , hp or tq?

Dynoe #'s in sig, did you miss that? Put down 399 hp & 397 tq which equates on a low estimate to 425 at the flywheel

I filled my tank all the way to the top. Drove the 200+ miles to and from using the odometer to track my miles. Then when I got home I refilled the tank and checked how many gallons it took. You divide the gallons into the miles to get your total

OK it got worse....significantly worse. MPG with tons of stop and go driving, I mean TONS, I got 17.5 MPG. Guess it's still not too bad for city driving with my mods.

I was getting 27.5 MPG on the highway when I was cammed with bolt-ons.
    They do pretty good.
    It was a 226/234 554/575 112.

Hell, getting 16 MPG with the 'baby' cammed 402 around town if I drive it light.
    Soon to change though...4.11's.

Around town with the 226/234 I could get 22.5 MPG.

damn that is impressive. My trans am definatly got more miles per gallon then my cobra. I don't even get 200 miles per tank.. given it is a small tank

Low estimate is right. I put you at 458HP/456TQ, and that is with a 13% drivetrain loss. If you had an electric water pump (<--that b*tch is expensive BTW) and minimal accessories, you would be pushing around 500 at the motor. Pretty stout for an N/A small block, ANY N/A small block.

I am sure it pulls hard now, but you know the STOCK LS7 makes more power than that, just imagine if you had one of those babies in there with a monster cam and long tubes...that thing would make you your pants when you drop the hammer.

Just an update here fellas. On the recommendation of Sarge I went out and bought FP60 and starting using it. Well I did my routine stop and go work driving, this time with the FP60 in the tank. Numbers were:

    136.1 miles driven
    6.832 gallons used=

19.9 MPG........UP from 17.5 FP60 is the shit, I came home with an extra 1/4 of a tank of gas last week...not a misprint, an extra 1/4 of a tank than I usually have left

Treatment cost $44 for a gallon shipped, next time I am buying a bigger quantity. IT is worth the $$$ spent. 17 gallon tank rounded off x 2.5 MPG gain gives me 42.5 miles more to a full tank. Thta is $$$ well spent for only using 3 ounces per fill-up.
