Question Nitto 555's or Kumho MX's

I ordered some nitto 555's the other day and I did a little research on them and found out that they have a better tread life but less of a traction rating compared to my mx's. The advantage and disadvantage is for the same size of tire the nittos measure 11.09in(A Traction rating) and the kumhos 10.9in(AA Traction rating which is better even though the contact patch is slightly smaller)I've been driving on the mx's for a while and pretty much since I've owned my m6 SS, but I saw a good deal on nittos and couldn't pass it up. My mx's are great and I've got no complaints about them. I know nitto is supposed to be the stuff.

Should I sell the nittos and go with the kumhos which are a lot less, have my confidence and perform great or should I keep the nittos and see how I like them.

Please only respond if you've had experience with these tires.

The Nittos are really nice tires, but I like the quality of the MXs for the price. My friend has 555s and I have the Kumhos and I can tell no difference in performance. So basically equal tires, just the Kumhos cost less.

I loved my MX's when I had them.

The Nittos are a pretty good tire as well.
How much life is left on the MX's??

if you like the nitto 555's then you will LOVE the new nitto 555r2's.
there are the same compound as their DR but with a stiff side wall.
they are calling it an autocross tire.... all i can say is that they are AWSOME!!! i just put a set on my Z06 and the car has NEVER
    handled/ launched better!

check them out! and they come in a 275/40/17.

I was mainly worried about the traction I didn't want to have to get on the brakes one day and slide into somebody because of me being used to better tires. I've got mx's on the back right now and they hook great! The tread is still great too! I'm replacing my front tires but I might rotate when I get the nittos since they're wider and set them out back.

    Check this out

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=48

Look for Traction Grades and read there. I learned a lot and I can testify to the mx's for the handling g's since I've got a gtech Pro(SS) Version. I DO NOT want to go down in traction. I look hooking like crazy in 1st

I don't think you have to worry about them being that different.

the r2's, are they straight up drag tires? If I'm right they don't last long right? These are going to be my daily driver tires.

I don't really care how the tread looks on tires but it is nice to have an awesome look to them, but as long as they grip like crazy when dry and handle great in water, then I'm good. by the way those tires you gave me the site to are drifting tires... (not necessarily drifting tires but they drift with those)

yea agreed...i wish i could find somone on here that has tried them out...ive had no luck so far....i would assume they are on par with bfg KD's as far as traction goes....prolly about as sticky as u can get before going to a racing compound/DR tire

I'll put it like this the kumho mx's have the highest traction rating on tirerack.com which is AA. Those tires are also right at the top damn near VERY TOP of kumhos tires.

    http://www.kumhousa.com/specifictire...tId=1&pid=KU15

Read the chart then read what these tires are usually used on and read what they're compared to.

i have the 555's on the front and love those too. good front tire to have...

I think I'll end up keeping them since I'll only break even when the shipping is added on the mx's. Also I've looked at the kumho asx's and they're less of a performance tire atleast for what my car needs (in the rear). They do have and extremely long lasting tread wear rating which is 420 and AA traction. Sounds good to me as far as the tread wear and traction also they're rated REALLY high for hydroplaning resistance. Not sure which I will use in the future though. Depends on the driving I want to do and how much cash I've got. For the winter I should use kumhos asx's and summer kumhos mx's and nittos 555's

that 420AA rating is a tire that is more suited for all weather high performance driving, just like the Perilli PZero Nero M+S (400AA A rating respectively). i had a set of those Perilli's on my old 95 z28 and great traction all around esp. in the rain. back then they were about 140-150 a tire though for (275/40/17)...

well lucky for me i live in sunny san diego and we only get rain about 10 days a year.
and this car is a weekand warrior anyway.... fair weather only....

the grip from these tires is amazing!!!!! i ll be glad to get 8K miles from them...
    or about 2 years.

I've got the nittos on now and they happen to ride real smooth. I guess theres nothing special yet because I haven't driven 20 miles yet, but I'll keep you posted and this can be a review.
