How do I choose a muffler?
My 1999 trans am is completely stock.
I want it to sound deeper and louder.
I do no want to change anything about the engine.
I thought that putting a new muffler on would be the best way.
How do I choose which muffler to get?
I have read already that flowmaster sounds like crap.
I have looked at brands like magnaflow/dynomax.
I know that borla is too expensive for me.
I'm not looking to spend over $100 on the muffler.
Does anyone have any information that can help me??
Also I'm looking to also get new tips.
I really want dual, stainless steal, angle cut tips.
And also ones that are not longer than 10 inches.
The outlet size doesn't really matter anywhere from 2.5 to 3 would work.
I don't want the ones with resonators because they decrease the sound.
The only ones that I can find like that on summit racing are magnaflow ones for 50 dollars each.
I was hoping to spend about 50 on two.
Does anyone know any other good brands for tips??
Any and all links and in-put apprieciated.
Thank you!

Black on Black- 2001 Camaro SS
Instead of just getting a muffler, why not get a cat-back exhaust system? Corsa, GMMG, and Borla are some of the nicest cat-backs for F-bodys although very expensive. If you want lots of sound you may wanna consider a SLP Loud Mouth. FlowMaster is the the worst flowing for LS1 cars. I went on and got the Corsa, and love every bit of it. Corsa has the nicest tips as well. The SLP uses a resonator rather than a muffler, but the resonator can be replaced with a muffler. This system will work for you if you plan on leaveing the engine stock, but tends to get obnoxious with lots of drone with boltons.

SLP Loudmouth is the way to go, if it's a 6 spd. I love it and so does everybody within 100 yards

If you aren't doing any other mods, go with SLP loudmouth.

Flowmaster has a awesome sound. If you aint going to do anything to the motor, and aint worried about power gains get a flowmaster 80 series muffler you'll love it.

i looked at the inside of some flowmasters today.
i don't like the way they are so restrictive.
i think i will look into getting something from SLP or magnaflow.
borla is way too expensive for my budget.

Go with the magnaflow....it's cheap(just get the muffler if that's all you can afford) and sounds good but is kinda quiet at lower rpm's until you break it in. If you want loud then go with slp...it'll get annoying after awhile if the car is your DD.
For tips...most muffler shops will throw in free ones...if you're doing the install yourself then a muffler shop might just sell you some cheap tips
BTW you're f'in HOT

I had a flowmaster on my 2000 formula WS6 it was very loud and I could easily intimidate people. On my current 99 Z28 I chose a Magnaflow because it flow better than the flowmaster. It is fairly quiet but it does have a nice muscle car rumble, my .02

My first car was an 89 IROC-Z back in 95.. flowmaster.. loved the sound..
had an immaculate 91 GTA.. changed over to same thing with the three inch chrome barrels out the back sounded badass.
then moved over to a 95 Z28 modified engine and something was definitely done with the exhaust.. but had original tips .. but that bastard was mean sounding ..
last but definitely not least... Ordered my 2002 SS with the regular Slp exhaust .. Added the magnaflow cat back.. absolutely hated how low and how clusterfuck the tips looked hanging out of the back of the car .. definitely does not go along with the body lines of a camaro .. so I left the magnaflow on and ordered the SLP centermount valance and tips and fabricated it to the magnaflow .. Im very pleased with the looks and like the other guy said its quiet at first but after you break the magnaflow in it sounds extremely good .. and has the best flow.. and hp bump by statistics on the site.. and on higher rpms definitely an attention getter ..
my friends have a tendency of getting in and reving it up to set off car alarms itll definitely turn some heads ..
and key point .. you have the firebird .. it has a big cut out in the back for barrels of an exhaust so if you did get spring the $300 or so to get the magnaflow catback setup which is all bolt on .. the polished stainless steel tips it comes with would probably look perfect
this is the reported hp bump by getting a magnaflow from their site
heres the magnaflow after installed
this is a side shot you can see how low and how far they stick out
this is after I switched it of course
