How much for shift fork fix?

Im not even sure its a shift fork. I have done some research and that seems to be the most likely answer. I just bought a 99 z. I havent driven it much but every once in a while it will pop out of forth and grind a little. This only seems to happen on a normal or light shift. If its a firm shift there are no problems and it doesnt happen that much anyways. Just something im concerned about. So is the shift fork my problem and how much should it cost to get fixed?

well it could be ur shift fork but beins 2nd is also on the same fork i would believe u would have problems with it also if the fork was broken, also ive had major problems with my 98 i just bought with losing 2,4,and 6th gears all the sudden then comin back 5 min later and i also had that 4th gear prob, i called a t-56 specialist and told me it sounded more like a clutch problem not engaging and disengaging properly, i ordered a new clutch, master and slave cylinder and its in the midst of its install i will keep u posted if this fixed my problem

3rd and 4th share the same fork, not 2nd. 3rd &4th,1st & 2nd, 6th& 5th and reverse are the shift forks inside a T56. So having a problem in 3rd or 4th will have nothing to do with 2nd. It is possible to have a worn 3rd/4th fork and only have affect one of the gears( sounds like thats what is happening here). The problem will progress and get worse. The jumping out of gear places an extreme load on that fork and will eventually affect both 3rd and 4th. It progresses until it locks in gear( usually 4th).Even if your problem is only worn fork pads, the repair pain is the same= a teardown. You would be best off replacing the aluminum with an iron 3/4 fork at that time whether its worn now or not.

do u drive a 6spd? 2nd and 4th r on the same fork and 6th is separate there are top and bottom gears 1st and 3rd same fork 5th separate

Well, yes I do . I have also been inside these boxes and know that what I said above is fact. Are you even talking about a T56 ? I am also familiar with other manual boxes and there are none that are as you have stated.

You must have heard wrong my friend. The T56 shift forks are 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6. 2nd gear and 4th gear to not share a shift fork, they are entirely separate. I've never heard of any other transmission using that pattern either, they are just like the T56, minus 6th gear.

ok so your popping out of fourth on an easy shift is that what your saying...when you accelerate it omes out of gear? if this is what your saying its not the fork...this is a very classic T56 problem or atleast it is with me...youve smashed or otherwise broken a strut key if it gets worse it could get lodged then its not going to come out of 4th... had that happen too...
what other symptoms are you having if your having other symptoms that could indicate a different problem than i have described....its very hard to diagnose something just by what someone tells you.

there is a reason why the T56 is called a rail trans...everything is on the same rail. but they do have seperate forks, which is where some people get confused i think 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, R
