Coolant Flush

Going to do it this weekend, but just was wondering what is the best way to do it? Coolant Flush that is.

I recommend Peak Global Antifreeze, beware the DexCool

pop the drain plug and run it while putting a hose to the filler neck.... I would go ahead and install a cooler 160 Thermostat while your at it, if you havent already. Or you can drain radiator and fill with water run it to operating temp and then drain and refill, repeat. -Tim

Prestone makes a flush additive also...supposed to clean the system out pretty good. You follow the normal fluch process and the cleaner gets more crap out.

incase the wondering the drainage petcock is on the underside of the RAD, I think the passenger side. just feel around the bottom and you'll come across it

Does anybody have a pic of where the drainage petcock valve is?

I plan on using Dex (it has worked for me), then filling the rest with regular distilled water from the grocery, then using Water Wetter. I already have the 160 thermo.

Just to be sure.

1. Unhook lower radiator hose
2. Unplug drainage petcock
3. Get a hose and run it through the system
4. Unhook upper radiator hose
5. Rehook everything and refill.

Why not use the DEXCOOL?

I just used the Prestone Rad flush on my girls Neon. Then I tore the engine apart for a head gasket fix. The flush worked great, cleaned it up like new! I plan to use it on my TA soon too.
I'm changing away from Dex cool also. A lot of talk on that stuff clumping up in the radiators and collecting as a slimey grey matter. I would think if you flush and change fluid regularly, it would be no problem. I'm going to the Red Line and water mix. But my TA is a nice weather, track car... no winters.

First i would drain the ra. from the plug too prevent a mess.
Then i would put a hose in the rad and start the car and let it circulate "op. temps" with the plug open and then when it starts flowing clear water out the bottom i would shut it off let it finish draining then replace with new fluid.
Heres a pic its on the pass. front, right below the rad.

or have the car running with the Rad cap off and wait till all the air bubbles are gone.

All I ever use. If you dont have any air leaks and run it 25,000 miles or 2 years it is great stuff.

I think you do this when the car is off.

I tryed flushing mine, and kept waiting for the water to come out the hose of the tb bc it was disconnected with the rad open and filling it with buckets.

...after about 45 min of nonesence and running in circles bc it would still start to over heat and no water came out....

I said f*it and turned it off top the rad and finally the water came out of the hose like everyone talked about...

my internet was down at the time so i thought reading it so many times it was a piece of cake

Careful, if you run a hose until the radiator drains out clear and stop. Your engine is now filled with hose water and no antifreeze, so to get the proper 50/50 is tricky. If you buy pre-mixed 50/50 then you really would be dilluted.
I like just draining the radiator and then refilling with pre-mix and that way maybe 50% is changed but the "hard water" is not in the system.
