what is a safe rpm going though the traps
anyone know what a safe rpm is going though the traps? i just put a new tach in my car last night, because my stock tach was showing 7grand! i have 4.10 gears with drag radial tires, and an m6 weak clutch... (waiting on the new one...) i found out that my 02 has ls6 heads and intake... anyone know what would be a safe rpm? shes really screaming!! oh and i had my rev limiter bumped up to 6500.

What size tire??
With 4.10's you should be able to go to 118MPH or so on a stock rev limiter and stock tire size in 4th gear.
M6 I assume?

what i was wondering is what can the motor take... because i race a lot, and i'm entering in the points run this year with it, and no one around here really knows much about the ls1s... can it handle 4th? or should i just grab 5th... but i did hear that it kills more time grabbing 5th, then just letting it roll through the traps. i don't really wont to hurt the motor, but that is the price of racing

I won't ever shift into 5th gear. It is an overdrive gear and not intended for racing.
I would rather loose a little MPH than shift into 5th. Which would be the case if I ever ran off this mountain.
Stock bottom end can handle 6400 as long as it isn't held there. Does the car have the LS6 valvetrain as well??
Spinning to 6200 would be 115MPH with your set-up.
Spinning to 6400 would be 119MPH.

i never had the motor apart, but its a june of 02 and what someone told me is that it has to have an ls6 by the vin number, because its something rare... i say bs, but its not an ls1 that we do know... there was rumors that some camaros came with an ls6 vale train, and i do know that it has the spm ls6 heads... all i know is that the car runs like mad, and with these times, i don't really wont to change cams and stuff, because its impressive for an 3800 pound car

Agreed.
Never heard of an LS1 F-Body with an LS6 heads without a swap. I have heard of the LS6 block in them, but they still had the LS1 heads/cam.
Either way...sounds like it runs hard!!!
You could run a slightly taller tire to help with the gearing. It would lower the ratio a bit lowering the RPM you trap at.

thanxs man... i'll just say this i love how the car runs with whats done to it, only have 4,000 in up greads. i guess i should look into some bigger tires, unless the clutch is sliping and leting the motor rev higher... dam just thought of that

I understand about clutch issues.
My stroker ate a SPEC 5 in about 4000 miles.
It was my fault though. Cheaped out and resurfaced the stock flywheel. Too much came off. Should have gotten a SPEC flywheel in the first place.
Breaking in my SPEC 4 as we type.

dam... yeah someone talked me into putting one of the new z06 clutch’s in, because it was cheep i went with it... now im waiting on my stage 3 and flywheel, the z06 cant handle the drag redials. So do u like spec clutches? I wonted an mccloud, but I could justify the money

yeah everyone always has something bad to say about a part that someone swears by, i say just go with what works... 90% of racing is the driver... thats my moto...
i did hear though that spec flywheels will help you rev quicker... i hope so... i hope that this new clutch well help me brake into the 11's, when i ran my 12.18 my clutch was smoking, and i grabed 5th... i think i'm smoking crak, but i can still hope for a time slip with 11's on it!!!
