I'd say let the air out of his tires then go for it hahaha. Just being honest. Those have more power and more grip so if he hooks up its over as quick as it starts.

should be a low to mid 12's assuming it is stock. Can the guy drive it good?? Lots of guys with expensive cars cant drive them good in a race.
If you can get good traction and spray atleast a 150shot then i think you will have a chance. Might want to invest in some drag radials to help out.

My friend has a 1997 Viper GTS and they are no joke...even stock. He only had the car to the track once and managed a 12.8 at 117.xx... Obviously, the launch is tricky, but look at the trap speed. Get some good tires and hope you can get out of the hole fast.

Black on Black- 2000 Camaro SS M6
I have a full bolt on car with drag radials and 410s and i beat one by half a car length once in an 1/8mile. and by a full car length the 2nd time. he had alot of traction problems. you have to make sure you hook and get some distance while he spins. I would def get some street drags at least, and if you dont have any other bolt ons, PLEASE SPRAY! good luck bro!

These sources all include vehicle testing done by "the experts" at Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track, various written auto publications and from the auto manufacturers themselves.
The times are obviously different...just posting what I found.

Last time I raced a viper, I let him get the jump on me, then I accelerated, got passed him, slowed down til he kept up to me, then i hit the gas again, he went in my rear view..repeated it one more time. My ex was in his car. Anyway, I ended up going too fast and blew the light. He caught it and my friend who was following ended up at the light with him.
"Well didnt look like your friend won there did he?"
"Umm..wasnt he fucking with you?"

White- 2001 Camaro Z-28
There is hope my friend. Like you I also have an A4 2001 Z28 and I challenge any stock Viper to the street from a dead stop. If you follow these instructions you should rule the streets with your A4. First things first, Get a cold air Pak from SLP, this includes the lid, ram air mod that mounts below the airbox, and the smooth bellows (less than $300 shipped). De-screen the MAF. Next get some SLP long Tube headers ($800 on eBay plus $500-$600 in labor but worth at least .5 in the 1/4) (ground clearance will suck but it's worth it!) Next get a True Dual 3" exhaust system this will leave you speechless when it comes to back pressure (there will be none, nor mufflers, nor CATS, nor tail pipes) ($325 shipped on eBay). Then you need to disable the torque management in the cars PCM. This cannot be done with a handheld tuner my friend, it must be done by someone with LS1 edit or hp Tuners or some kind of programming software (I got mine done on eBay for $158.00 shipped). Torque management lowers the engine's torque shortly before the shift point. You will gain .5 sec in the 1/4 I guarantee it! Then get the Vette servo piston and have it installed in the tranny. ($12 in parts $65-$90 in labor) You should be able to get them to up the line pressure while they are installing the vette servo. While they have it in the air buy a torque converter that is made for the SS Chevy Trailblazer, ($249 on eBay and $295 in labor) this torque converter is the newly revised converter that would be in the Camaro/Firebird if they were still in production. It's a better match for the stock LS1 cam. It stalls at a variable 2600-3200. This will help the car leave, HARD! It takes a few tries to get it to launch just right but once you get it down you will turn heads! Next get an Auburn 3.73 positrac 3rd member ($900 for parts and installation unless you have the larger carrier then you will just need the ring and pinion gear and installation will be less than $500) and a set of BFG drag radials ($550 for the set of 2) and you will have a cheap built high 11 sec monster with no NOS! There is a 1997 Viper here in my home town along with some other 500-600 horse bad asses that get straight left by my automatic off the line. Do I have 500 horepower? Hell no, but I have just enough horsepower that I can control on the street. All natural, all the way! You think i'm full of shit? Then bring what you got to East Texas and prove it. Better bring a driver if you can't drive and a set of Hoosiers! Good Luck with the A4 Z28! Take care.

all these numbers dont mean shit......
you should race him for god sakes, this shouldnt be debated. why not, it would be a blast to get killed by one of these. and if youre stock and you both can drive he will pull on you hard. but anything can happen which is why you should do it. and if he wins dont be discouraged, thats a 10 cylinder under his hood. i think that maybe people are losing sight of that because there have been a few of these kind of me vs. viper threads.
were 2000s still the 6.5 liter???? and unless your putting down 400 or so at the wheels with either a nice stall or a 6 speed with some gears i think you'll get pulled on.....
but oh my god...its a v10! and its not like its a truck, its a $85k (new) sports car that got its reputation by being king shit.
just like the new viper vs. the new z06....
who else realizes how much of an achievement that is to beat (even with the weght advantage) a 10 cylinder muscle car with a full 1.2 liters more!!!! thats bad ass for GM!!!
