    First Upgrade

Well I just purchased a '98 t/a with 60,xxx. It's bone stock. I'm new to ls1's but not to engines. As far as first upgrades, what do you all suggest for intake and exhaust mods?

Do the fra(free ram air) mod, get a lid...doesn't matter which one, exhaust depends on what you're looking for. GMMG, stainless works, borla are on the top rung in quality and sound IMO...but are very expensive. SLP's loudmouth is very loud which some love and some don't. Magnaflow is a good catback that flows well and sounds good(little quiet at idle)....same with hooker. Flowmasters don't flow all that great, but sound very nice...some people decide on a cut-out and flows. Exhaust goes on and on and on....like I said earlier, depends on what you want. So do the free mods, get a lid, port the throttle body, get a ls6 intake manifold, long tube headers, catback, torque convertor(auto), gears, tires.....goes on and on. Here's a link to the free mods.

Do the intake, exhaust and freebies first, but I'd say do sub-frame connectors, lower control arms and Strut tower brace after that. They are fairly cheap and worthwhile.

Sub Frame connectors should be the first thing. Then build from there.

I would replace the Y-pipe and the exhaust. Get yourself a SLP air lid or somthing simular and a K&N filter. That all should be good for about 20rwhp.

Already put a k&n on it. As far as exhaust, which system do you all prefer? I'm more worried about tone then flow, but both is nice also. I like the sound of the magnaflows and spintechs the best, and found a magnaflow on summit for $125. For financial purposes it would be better for me to just have the muffler installed at a shop as opposed to buying an entire catback. Is magnaflow MPE-14267 a direct fit to the stock exhaust?
