My LS1 SS got killed
I was on the way home from work today. I pulled up to a red light, i was in right lane, its a 3 lane road. in the middle lane was some sort of acura. The guy in the acura has his girl in the car with him, he looks over and starts revving his engine. i look over and shake my head, i am tired, long day at shop. guy keeps revving. then i hear a real deep rumble, and something revs and it was sounding fucking mean. sure enough on the other side of the acura, a 1995 impala SS had pulled up, it was my dad (he owns the shop, i work there 4 days a week, when not in school).
So now i start revving, smile on my face. light turns green and its a two car race. the acura was left behind before we even left the intersection. i pulled on my dads impala through my first, and second gears. but then at about 60mph, the impala starts closing the 1 car gap. by 130 he had about 4 cars on me. then we shut it down.
1995 Impala SS: LT1, 4Auto, posi, ram air hood n intake, edelbrock cat back, and a custom built engine. (cams, pistons, crank, heads, LT headers)
2002 Camaro SS: LS1, 6M, posi, ram air, bilstein suspension, cat-back (looking to get a similar edelbrock set up to dads impala, sounds sweet), and LT headers.

approx 440hp to the wheels. which is pretty good for an LT1.
I was able to pull on him from the start just because i was so much lighter, but once he got moving, at approx 60 he was coasting by me. but hey, its a loss, but one of the better races i've had in a while.
mine is around 340 - 350hp at wheels.
but those are both approximate nubmers, different dyno's give different numbers. fact is i lost, to my dad, and i admit it.Last edited by Insert; 06-03-2008 at 06:54 AM.

not into the nitrous, but i am looking to rebuild my engine, i'll basically be modelling it after dads engine. but yea, cams, crank, pistons... can these LS1's be bored out much? all things i'll look into once i got it apart. thats the bonus of doing all your own machining and assembly, you dont need a set plan. (originally i was going to make a bolt on, but plans have changed).

I love my F and B-Bodies rides. Congrats to your dad. Is the LT1 a stroker motor, by chance? I'm thinking about stroking my '96 with an Eagle 383 kit.

I had those two exact same cars sittin in my driveway about 6 months ago....
He shoulda pulled you outta the hole really. Weird he got it movin that well after 60.
FYI, I doubt he's putting anywhere near that much to the wheels. That much and he shoulda walked you worse than that and w/out stroking it, its nearly impossible to put that much to the wheels. 440 in these cars w/ a good stall and gears is a mid/low 11 second car. I'm puttin a little over 330 to the wheels and my car will go 12.60 in good air.96 Imp SS- 12.74@103, 1.74 60' out of fuel
