    AC Questions

This is my first post since I just got my 1998 z28 yesterday.

I noticed my AC is blowing a bit worm(about 50 to 55 degrees). I believe it should be about 45 degrees. What are the specs for my z28? Hi side, low side pressure and capacity.

it differs depending on ambient temps, but A/C should be running around 25-30psi low side and 175-225 high side if fully charged. not sure on the capacity but it's on a sticker under the hood. I live in a hot climate too, mine is fully charged and it doesn't blow very cold when it's pretty hot out side unless I'm cruising on the highway with enough air blowing over the condensor. Our a/c systems pretty much suck compared to most late model cars I've noticed.

Thanks a lot for the info. I dumped a 12oz can straight in(no bullshit additives). It kicked my low side PSI from 25 or so to about 33. The high is sitting at about 225-250 now was at 220max. So I guess it is kind of high. But, when I unhooked my gauges I noticed the damn shrader valves still leaked a bit. So I might just replace them. And pull down with a vac, see if it holds.

What temp does your air blow out of the vents right now?

Pretty easy, that's why I dumped in one more can.

But, what is the actual temp blowing out the vents?

You made a mess, you can't just dump coolant into the system. You want the low side down around 25-28psi with fan on high, controls set to normal ac position. There is alot more than just what the pressures are in the system that determines how cold it is at the vents. The 1st thing is are the control cables working properly. Is it closing the hot air door all the way?You realize the fbodies don't use a hot water shut off valve SO the heater core is ALWAYS hot with engine coolant running through it.If i were closer i'd slap you around just for thinkin about dumping coolant into a system without knowing WTH yer doing!

When i bought my wifes 99TA the ac was warm....i checked the pressures. Some idiot had it WAY over filled,I dumped ALOT of coolant out until it was operating properly. Now its nice and cold BUT if it had a hot water shut off valve it would be much colder.I suggest you were probably had the proper amount of charge when you were at 25 psi, probably the air door needs adjustment AND honestly i don't think it will get much colder than what you had UNLESS you install a hot water shut off.

by the way 30 degrees below ambient air out of the vents is considered very good.If you shut off the hot water flow to the core you will probably see 40.

Thanks for the info. My shrader valves need to be replaced, so I will recharge with exact specified ammount(1.5 lbs.).

Eh, that's what I do. I don't prefer to get raped by shops. I rather mess it up myself.
