how much faster are 600 crotch rockets?
i was running down I-40 and a CR passed me running about 80 and gouged it a lil, but i was on the phone so i couldnt do anything... so after i finish my call i catch him with about 100 yards between us and the car in front of us... and i roll beside him in 4th and lay down the throttle... i dont think he was really ready so it took him a bit to find what he was looking for, but he got on it... he wasnt really doing that much... when we got close to the car in front of us he had to let off and i passed the car and let up a lil and let him pass me... i gouged it again, hit 5th and was running behind him about 120... and he was walking me a bit, but i prolly should have still been in 4th but he still wasnt leaving me like i thought he should be...
was he just not really trying or are they just not that fast?
oh i also saw a str10 ram, but he wouldnt run me... so not much to say there

A honda cr? You raced a... dirtbike..?
No, they're not even remotely alike a 600 class sportbike. They're for off-roading, not going fast. Like an ATV or a tractor compared to a sports car.Last edited by shadegray; 05-14-2006 at 02:51 PM.

If he was on a newer CBR600, 120 is nothing < I think they top in about 150 or so. But that is a couple years old stat so they may be even faster now......

legally i beleive they can only hit like 187... and im not saying that he wasnt going fster than me... im not worried about where he was on the y scale... im saying the slope wasnt impressive...
when i laid the trottle down i expected to see him lay down and start pulling hard.... i saw him put about 7 lengths (car not bike) on me in about a mile... not what i thought a crotch rocket was all about...
im actually considering buying a 95 600 yamaha and turning it into a naked (its UGLY!!!!), but whats the point if its barely faster than my vette...

4000 pounds vs. 400 lbs... 350 hp vs. 50ish...
1/10th the weight... and 1/7th the h/p...
f=ma...
so a=f/m... do the math it should be way faster... and the new one prolly have more like 85 hp...

96 600 maybe $3k vs I dont even know what a z-51 ??
I meant bikes are not about top end only , and you have to look at rideing a bike at 150 mph+.. Things come at you awful fast ...

i dont think im being so unclear that you havent figured out that im talking about acceleration here... so stop saying things about riding a bike at 150... or that they till top out at 150... i just want to know are these crazy fast 600 crotch rockets that are all the rage serously barely faster than my vette?
every one tells me that i need to start with a 600, but if its that slow i think i can handle a 750... (which i might still start with a 600 becuase they are cheap)

its not about how good u can drive. its about how blind the old lady running the stopsign is.

true there are some nice naked ones... but if you look at a CR and a naked... a 600 CR lays down what maybe 65 hp to 75 hp... and most 600 nakeds lay down more like 45-60 (most are vtwins)... that not cool... and i dont like the looks of the tanks and rear fenders of most nakeds... and i can get the 95 for $2500 (gonna try to get it for less) after i strip the body work (that was freshly painted and in excellent condition) and sell it i can surely afford the seat and rear section from a 99 or so and have it repainted... then do a head light combo (sweet ass dual headlights since i think singles are ugly)... do some clean up work like plate mounts and blinkers... and have a nice bike that maybe i can make a few bucks off of it i sell it... it just had the mort and tranny refurbed so its in good mechanical shape... i dont know i was just wanting more of a rush than what i get in the vette

The 600s are very good bikes to learn about shifting/throttle control. Get good on it then maybe move up to you 750 or on up..or stay with it.. Any 600 CR,lol, has more in it than you will ever get out of it , unless you take it to a track...

well me . I think you are going in the right direction with the older bike. You dont want to get a bike that is to much for you and lay it down ... IMO
