What gains can i get with mild cam?

I have the LS6 motor in my 99 ss and i was wondering what type of gains would i look for in a mild cam? i'm just doing the cam swap, using the same heads i already have! Thanks

you can get some pretty good gains from a mild cam...Most of the time it wont be more hp than those you would get with a larger cam, but its probably going to be in a more enjoyable powerband/range for a street car. Just be sure to do all the supporting mods so you can get the full benefit of the cam.

Here is the chart showing how much I gained with from adding my cam (226/228 .585/.588 112 lsa). SO far I think of it as a great DD cam, good street manners, and did nothing but give me more power.

And these gains are from the cam alone?

Cam and tune, it was tuned before, just needs to be touched up for the new cam. Only other things I did when I did the cam as well was oil pump, timing chain and springs. Before it was just a LT header, TD exhaust, and lid only car with a tune.

On street tires with a failing posi I have cut an 8.11@ 90.67mph in the 1/8th with a 2.02 60' time. Overall, I could not be happier with the cam for my purposes.

is that with a dyno tune??? i'd get headers, y pipe and cat back exchaust before a cam... you won't see huge gains from a cam untill you open the exhaust up... the stock LS6 heads aren't as restrictive as stock LS1 but should have the exhaust and intake ported... then you'll see some nice gains...

I gained roughly 60hp with a little bigger cam and headers, and that is through the LS1 intake.

It's perfectly reasonable to expect 35 - 40 rwhp from a mild cam. Add in all of the supporting mods and a great tune and you could expect to get a bit more. There are plenty of guys out there running larger cams that have netted 50 - 65 rwhp from just a cam swap alone.

I know this is over a year old, but what kind of idle do you have with this cam?

Should be near stock. My old cam220/224 112lsa was close to stock idle with just a hint of chop to it
