    Oil Pressure

How much oil pressure should a stock LS1 have. Mine is a 98 with around 54k miles on it, I am running Mobil1 10w30 and at idle it has about 37 and at higher rpms it gets about 45 to 50 does this seem too low?

Not really....Mobil1 is on the thin side of a 30 weight anyway...damn near a 20 weight....but that pressure is in line....

Worry not so much as what your oil pressure is, but what it usually is. Oil pressure can vary quite a bit from engine to engine, but if you notice one day that it is 10psi lower than it normally is, that can be indicative of a substantial problem.

The old small block chevy rule of thumb was 10 psi at idle and 10 psi for each additional 1000 rpms was adequate. Your idle pressure seems to good to have a problem.

As pointed out above though, a sudden change is more cause for concern.

If those are you're readings with a fully warmed up engine, you're absolutely fine.

My 1999 had what I thought was kind of low pressure at idle with the stock pump. It was oiling fine...but I REALLY like what the new pump ($120) has done for me.

I was around 25 PSI at idle with Mobil 5w-30.
Now I am at 40+ at idle.

Your OK. 3800's operating temp averages 58-62 at idle depending on viscosity. 10W40 or 15W40 weights make it run around 62psi
and 5W20 Wt makes it run around 58psi warm.
Cold is about 4 psi higher until it reaches around 130 degrees engine temp. then it drops from there.

My pressure is always higher when cold....oil is thicker so the pressure goes up. When at running temp idle mine is around 35-40....2000rpms around 55-60 with 10w-30 dino right now....putting synthetic back in when i'm done with auto-rx

didnt want to start a new thread so....my pessure is as follows

    cold start 50-60psi
    operating temp 40psi
    cruise 40-45 psi
    high way 55-60psi

i have noticed that after ive been driving for a while and i reach a stop, the pressure will fluctuate between 30-35psi. but as soon as i give it gas it it goes right back up to 40psi
