Best way to bypass emissions
I just moved to NY and need to figure out a way to get around emissions testing. Any ideas? PM me if you don't want to air your dirty laundry..............

Don't register your car in NY. My friend moved from California to Virginia and doesn't do anything... emissions, state inspection, etc. He even drives around with blue side markers.

Ask around for someone who can get you a fake emissions test result.

I was thinking more along the lines of a shop that does performance parts and just "hands out" the emissions stickers. In NC, there was a place that did that. They pulled your car into the garage, closed the door, and brought it back out with the sticker. It didn't matter what you had, we took my friend's truck there and he had a 400 sbc with long tube headers, no cats, X pipe, no mufflers. It doesn't seem like places like that exist up here due to the more serious nature of emissions testing.

slip the guy who is doing the testing a $10 and tell him there is another $10 in it for him if it passes, It worked here in FL when they had testing. Im glad the dont have it anymore.

I hear that way works, but it seems that emissions is taken very seriously here. That is what I am going to try, we'll see if it earns me a visit from the smog police!

Emissions isnt too bad, some places dont even look to see if you have cats. The important thing is that you arent throwing a code. Just for insurance Im gonna reconnect my AIR and EGR just for inspection. Hopefully they dont check for cats or tailpipes.

Just had mine done a month ago...They do a visual inspection of your emmission equipment to make sure it's there and then they hook up to your computer to make sure you have passed all your tests and haven't thrown any codes (this is for '96 and up vehicles). You cannot bribe anybody because it goes directly from your car computer with your VIN# right up to a computer in Albany. I would have some O2 simms on your car if you want to have a chance of passing the computer test. ......I have FLP Long Tube Headers (you can pop the CATs on and off them...that's why they're the best), but I have all my original emission equipment hooked up...................................yes I passed!

I guess at this point the fake document would be the best way to go assuming that you fail the emissions test. What year is your car (91?) Because Batcar said that is how they do it for 96 and newer......not sure about how they do it for the older models. I love Wisconsin...........

Jesus, NY sucks for anything related to cars. Besides emissions being a PITA, they wanted a million documents proving who I was just to register a fucking car. I'll only be here for one year though so I'll just lay low without an emissions sticker. I think that there must be a way, every state has tons of modified cars that would never pass emissions floating around. I just need to find one of those guys and ask what he did.

If you have a '95 and below year car, they don't do an emissions test in Orange County. But if you have a '96 and up, you cannot get your inspection sticker without passing the emissions test......And if you get caught without an inspection sticker .......major penalty.

I had an expired inspection sticker on my taurus and got a ticket 2 weeks ago, it was like 50 bucks.

That is GREAT news! No inspections in Orange County for me then, since I have a 91!
EDIT
I have since looked it up, and if I lived in any of the surrounding counties, I would get a dyno test. All I have to pass is a gas cap check and visual inspection. This should be a cinch, I'm sure 10$ bribe would get me past the visual inspection. It won't matter if it's videotaped, as all the camera will show is a short discussion, then you could pass him the cash when you pay. Thanks to all who contributed!Last edited by 91Z28; 08-06-2005 at 07:06 PM.

I live in north carolina, and a a state inspector i can tell you that the best place you can go to get an illegal inspection is a nationwide chain like a jiffy lube. the inspectors there are covered under the company insurance if they get slapped with a fine. one of my friends took his car that had no emissions control equipment and non DOT approved tires and he got a sticker in about 5 minutes. Even if the car is only OBDII, you are still suppoed to check for all the emissions equipment

Same thing in Arizona, they hook up to your computer for the test. They check the gas cap seal of all things, and look for your cats. Gotta love AZ, they make you pay for emissions testing even if your vehicle is exempt from testing!

Re: Best way to bypass emissions
in Kentucky your exempt if you have a car that is pre 1968 and the year never goes down either!!! they want to have my 1970 Chevelle, and if you fail the test you have to show(bring a reciept) that you spent at least $240 on trying to fix the problem, then get tested again.
i just keep telling them the car is not road worthy and can not be driven.
