Oil Filters
Well we have access to a lab. And smart fella's. So I got em lined up to test flow and filtration on 6 filters. Will post data/pics and all that....but what six filters we gonna test. They told me to keep it apples to apples...so all filters must cross reference. I suggest we use all filters that cross reference with PH1 Fram....I think that is the most popular filter in the world if I'm not mistaken. No poll...what I would ask is give me your top 6 brands of filters you would like tested and reported on. I see
Purolator
KN
Mobil1
AC Delco
WIX
Baldwin
Fram
NAPA Gold
STP
there are others....give me your top 6 ...I'll add all the votes up...buy em and deliver them to the SW Research Labs and get er done. Should be intresting.....

There is one monsterous study on this but I tend to use the Purolator PureOne or the Bosch top of the line one.
Kind of intensive reading and this is only one link of many:

I've heard WIX makes one of the top filters out there. I've never used them because no one here carries them that've I've seen so far.

TY,i've used the walmart oil filter and noticed that my oil pressure runs a little lower than when i use the purolator filter.I have to wonder why?Does the walmart filter flow less and filter better or the purolator flow more and filter less?i've been wondering about this ever since buddy holly died.

Agreed. The fresher the data, the better. Thanks for your initiative Sarge.

Well here is the folks doing the work.....
http://www.swri.org/4org/d03/vehsys/filfine/home.htm
Lets do this....
SuperTech ( WalMart)
KN
Bosch ( WIX/NAPA should be really really close to this one so we kill three birds with one stone)
AC Delco
Amsoil
Fram
What I am after is how much better do the high dollar (KN) filter and flow compared to the low end and middle of the pack. I dont want to run three high end filters and no low end and I think we should have one or two high end and one low end then four middle of the pack filters. But I'm open to suggestions....I am after a highend/low end/regular guy filter....and I suspect the KN is going to flow and filter in the middle of the pack...they have consistently shown they are no better than Purolator in past test....but cost three times more....Amsoil consistently beats the shit out of everybody...so we will see....and SuperTech consistently reflects a good flow and filtration for $2 bucks.....am I making any sense? And lastly I throw Fram in there as it is the number one seller in the country.

Any sort of fluid pressure drop/pressure increase is directly related to flow/restriction/filtration. If the pressure is low, the fluid flows more freely than when the pressure is high. If you are getting lower pressure with the Wal-mart filter it could be due to 1) less filtration due to less filter material (media) in the filter or 2) the filter material has larger pores than the Purolator media (more flow but more crap and larger size particles get through). It's the exact opposite of what you've been wondering about: Wal-mart probably flows more and filters less than Purolator. A totally plugged filter (if it had no pressure relief valve) would show the highest oil pressure, and would probably burst. Good thing the music still lives, though..... wonder no more.
