I get that a lot from my MSN. It has a 'troubleshoot' so I click on it it says proxy server. So I un plug my modem for a couple min . and then it works for a while. Might be something like that. I know the modem has to have the cache cleared every now and then ...

Did you say you entered an IP address? You should set it to DHCP.

i think a linksys router is kind of a hit or miss thing. it either works or it doesnt....my friend had the same problem with his. my dad is a network admin for the military and knows his shit. he told me to use nothing but d-link. not sayin that ed blown vert doesnt know what hes talking about either..but i personally have had nothing but problems with linksys and nothing but good internet connectivity with d-link...

It's possible your internet security settings are holding you back. On your browser window click on Tools-->Internet Options. Then go to the Security Tab and click the custom level button. You can set that to a lower security level or go through each each item and select enable. I highly recommend you have firewall protection because setting a lower security level will make you more vulnerable on the internet.
Also go to the windows update page and download/update "everything".
Good luck
I've heard linksys is hit or miss on how well it works. Personally I stay away from linksys, not bashing, just my preference. Right now I'm using Motorola cause I got it real cheap ==> $20. It's alright but that's all I can say about it.

Yeah, you definitely have a network configuration problem. You can try using the "troubleshooter" to help go through some steps. Or do what Snaggletooth suggests cause you may need more help.
Go to your control panel and click on "Network and Internet Connections". On the left pane you should see the Troubleshooters area. Click on the "Networking" and follow the on screen steps. If that doesn't help then try the "Network diagnostics" troubleshooter.
Also you should be able to call your internet provider to help you go over the installation process.
Hope this helps.
